Hi... Got a new Starsense a couple of weeks ago with USB only connection on HC. Had been using Starseek with old Starsense. I figured out that the Starseek wouldn't work with the new Starsense. Checked around, was told the the new SkiFi 3 was the answer, so got one yesterday. Was told to use a standard USB cable, which I did. Anyway, got everything hooked up.and could see the SkyFi on laptop, Samsung S8, and ipad mini, but could not connect to telescope, AVX. Help please.

Keiron Smith Hi Garry,
Does your StarSense have a USB port or an RS232 port on the hand controller?
Are you choosing AXV in the SkySafari Scope Type Settings?
Are you star-aligning your scope before trying to connect?
When you try to connect what happens? If there is an error message what exactly does it say?
Thanks!

Garry Snow Hi Keiron..... It's a brand new Starsense, replaced my old one, and has only USB connection. Same type port as my Canon camera. I am using AVX in the SkySafari settings. Scope is aligned. All my devices see the SkyFi wifi. Doesn't say Skyfi 3, just Skyfi. When I try to connect telescope, says it is connected to wifi but cannot connect to the scope. I'm using the same usb cable that I use with my camera. Have tried 3 different ones of those thinking the cable may be bad but made no difference.

Keiron Smith Does the SkyFi look like this:
-
Garry Snow Yes sir.
-
Keiron Smith Please attach a screenshot of the error message.
How are you aligning the scope?
-
Garry Snow Not there now. Using StarSense auto align.
-
Garry Snow Didn't see a way to attach. Exact wording
Connection Failure
SkySafari 5 Pro can make a wireless
network connection to the scope, but
the scope is not responding. Make
sure it is connected and powered on.
Also check that your scope type is correct. -
Garry Snow I was using an Orion StarSeek with earlier version StarSense that had RS-232 connector. Never a problem.

Bill Tschumy Garry,
What version of firmware in in the SkyFi 3? Look at the Firmware tab in the configuration interface. To see that, go to http://10.0.0.1 in browser when connected to the SkyFi 3 Wi-Fi. If you are not on 1.3.3 please try updating the firmware. See midway down this page for instructions:
http://www.skysafariastronomy.com/skyfi-3-professional-astronomy-telescope-control.html
I can't remember what firmware version supported the New Celestron USB controllers but I think it was 1.3.2 or higher.

Garry Snow Hey Bill... I will try to get out there shortly and check it.

Garry Snow Hey Bill... Updated to latest firmware, connects right up. Had roof closed on observatory so didn't try to move telescope, but did connect. Tried both with my Samsung S8 and iPad mini. Will load software on laptop tonight so that I can use that tonight. Thanks very much for your help. feeling very relieved.

Bill Tschumy That's good to know. Did you get the SkyFi 3 directly from us? What version of firmware was on it? We should be shipping with close to the latest although it is sometimes difficult to go update the firmware on all our stock.
Sorry for the difficulties.

Garry Snow Came from Woodland Hills. Wasn't aware at the time that I could get it directly from y'all for the same money. I think it was version 1.2.1, best I recall. This is the 3rd wifi setup I've had over the years. I think the first was the SkyFi box from Southern Stars, then StarSeek from Orion, now y'alls box. The first had a battery failure that corroded all the connections, batteries were 2 weeks old. Still have the StarSeek, which I haven't had long. I was having memory issues with my StarSense which I had since they first came out and Celestron replaced it free of charge. That being said, the StarSeek wouldn't work with the new StarSense due to no RS-232 port.

Bill Tschumy OK, it is probably understandable that something from Woodland Hills had older firmware. Celestron through us for a loop when they came out with the USB hand controller. They used a USB chipset we didn't support and we had to redo the firmware to get it to work. I think it was early this year we release a version that worked with the new Celestron handsets. Woodland Hills has probably had their stock longer than that.

Shannon Whitmore I recently purchased a SkyFi 3 for use with the Starsense for Skywatcher Mounts. I use it on an Orion Atlas Pro (In Alt/Az config). I can connect and control the mount on a PC via the SkyFi 3 Wifi, but not my phone which is a Samsung Note 8. I connect to the SkyFi wifi network but when I press connect on the app it doesn't connect to scope. Updated to latest firmware in both the start sense HC and SkyFi module. IN Sky Safari 5 pro I select Orion Atlas/Atlas Pro for the scope and can't connect. I tried all of the NextStar scopes. Nothing. There isn't anything identifying Starsense as scope type. Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Keiron Smith Hi Shannon,
Please create a NEW post in this same forum:
SkySafari | SkyFi / SkyBT / SkyWire / Serial-to-USB
We need to separate your story, your equipment, etc, from that which was originally being discussed here.
Thanks!
