Live view possible with compass turned on?

Hello, I have an iPhone SE and just downloaded the Sky Safari basics app. When I turn on compass to see what the night sky would look like, is it also possible to get a live view of my landscape that I would like to frame the night sky against? In other words, if I was standing looking at a particular mountain, could the iPhone show the mountain and the night sky at the same time? Thanks.

    Diane,

Yes, you can create a custom horizon for SkySafari.  The information for doing so is in the built-in Help.

Go to:  "Help > Settings Help > Horizon & Sky Help"  and scroll down to the section on creating your own horizon panorama.

Feel free to ask other questions if that is not clear enough.

    Hi Bill,

Under Horizon & Sky I have Show Horizon & Sky as On, as Panoramic Image checked, Show Cardinal Pts as On, Show Daylight as Off, and Show Horizon Glow as ON. Also Translucent Earth is checked.  When I turn Compas on, I see the Sky over Translucent Earth.  There is not an option for Live View of my surroundings.  Is there something else I need to check or uncheck?

Bill,  I just read down the help list of how to create your own Horizon Pano so there is no live view possible. Not what I was hoping.

I guess I misunderstood.  No there is not an option to overlay a live camera image on the star chart.

Can I add a customised photo panoramic horizon to SkySafari 6 Pro in the same way I can do it on my current version 5Pro? This is the only query I have preventing me to upgrade.

Yes, you can add you own horizon panorama in SS6 just as you can in SS5.
