SkySafari 6 Pro | Not Visible in iTunes Store?

I received an announcement email regarding SkySafari 6 Pro is now available but it is not in the iOS App Store.

It was just released a couple of hours ago.  Although the link worked for me, it is possible that it has not propagated to all the App Store sites.  Give it another hour.

I was able to use the link in the email to open the App Store version.

The link works, but using Search to find it may not.  I don't think Apple updates their search index instantaneously.

I'm confused. The link works for me, but I thought the only way to buy iOS apps is via App Store on your iDevice.

If you like the link on an iOS device it will take you to the App Store.

If you must use Search, then you might have to wait a bit for Apple to update their search index.

Thanks. I did not know that.

I received the same email. I purchased and installed the app on my iPad. However, when I tried to install on my iPhone, it wants me to purchase again. Certainly, we don’t need to purchase multiple licenses. If I knew this earlier, I would have purchased using my iPhone - or not upgraded at all.

    Mike,

No, you only need to purchase once.  Not sure what is up.  There are a couple of possibilities:

    1. You are logged into a different account on your phone

    2. Apple's Search is still not reliably finding it (index hasn't been fully updated).  Possibly you clicked on the wrong app?

    3. It is possible that the new app has just not propagated though all of Apple's servers.

I would just wait a couple of hours and try again.  You won't have to pay again.

The Compatability section in the App Store says that SS6 is iPad and iPhone compatible - it should work on both. I’m in the process of buying it on my phone, and will then check if it is available for download on my iPad.

    Bob,

If you bought SkySafari 5 in the past month, we can give you a free upgrade.  Please open a support ticket and include your Apple receipt so we can see the purchase date.

    Mike,

Don't worry about the purchase message on your iPhone. Just click purchase and you will receive a message which states no charge since you already purchased it.

Well, you should see a download icon if the store thinks it is already purchased.  I don't understand why that is not the case, but we don't control the App Store.  That is an Apple question.

Confirm SS6 Pro shows up ad available for download on my iPad after purchasing it on the iPhone. (I went into my account and checked purchases, just to be clear.)

The advert is also somewhat misleading. In the Canadian App Store it is being offered for roughly half price, yes. BUT, the buyer is then faced with various and sundry IN-APP PURCHASES after download. This fact is indicated next to the discounted price. Those IN-APP PURCHASES are several in number (e.g., additional stars, additional galaxies, etc.). Moreover, these in-app purchase are NOT listed on the Apple App Store page! So, yes, you save 50%. BUT, you’ll use up that savings making the app fully functional. When I see a 50%-off sale, I like to know the all-in cost UPFRONT.

    Spike,

The app is fully functional without the in-app purchases. The databases are slightly better than in SkySafari 5 even without them.  The in-app purchases are just gravy that you can now add on top.  We have not stripped out anything that needs an in-app purchase to recover.

I notice if I type “Sky Safari” (note the space) then it only finds version 5.  If I type “SkySafari” (no space) then it finds version 6 as well.

Another way to find it is to click the developer link to see all software titles by Simulation Curriculum and that’s another way to find it.

I’m confused about the half price off.  The link takes me to the iTunes Store in US, and I see the price is $19.99 but I thought that was the full price and I already own the SkySafari 5 Pro version.  So, am I supposed to see $19.99? Is that the full price or half the price?  Thank you

Full price is $39.99.  We have had SS5 at half price for the past month and a half because the new version was coming.  Perhaps that is why you thought it was the regular price.

Thanks Bill. You are right, that is why I thought I was seeing full price.  I appreciate the clarification.  Best,
