Export SkySafari Simulation to Video?

The fast processor on my new phone has enabled me to run some great time-lapse simulations.  I wondered if there is a way make a video in a comoon file, like .avi or .mov.  The lame way to do this would be to run the phone through an HDMI to my TV, and then make record what the TV is showing on another phone.  Is there a more elegant approach?  Thanks.

    Tom,

I haven't tried this but in iOS 11 there will be built-in screen recording.  I would think this would do the trick.  I have iOS 11 as a developer but I think it will be available to the general public in a week.

Here's an article about screen recording:

OK, I just tried this to see how it works.  It is pretty slick and I think it will meet your needs.  You can even trim the video from within the Photos app.

Thanks, Bill.  The simulation I just ran was a view of all of the asteroids to magnitude 18, viewed from earth looking along the ecliptic plane, with a time step of 2 days.  On an IPhone 7, this ran amazingly fast, clearly showing the distance changes and retrograde motions.  Even with an unlimited magnitude limit, it ran great, albeit with so many merged yellow dots that it was hard to split them.

The new iOS devices are amazingly fast.  I have the new iPad 10.5" Pro and it screams.  It updates the screen at 120 FPS.
