SkySafari 6 Pro | Where Are My Imported SS5 Observations?

I have created a Herschel 400 list; many objects on this list have previous observations. I want these previous observations to show up on this list. . I thought this was one of the new features in 6. I do see how it is listed in small blue lettering what lists the object was observed from. Will these show up when I print the completed list or do I need to do something else?

Also wording is crowded on top of other words, even with smallest fon selectedt, the blue lettering is difficult to see and very small. This is in settings section and observing lists section. I have screen shots to show if needed.

Features I love so far; ability to deselect already observed objects on map from list. Recordings of some object information. Inverse monochrome chart is great for old eyes.

I am operating ios 11.2 on iPad 2

thanks

The observations should be there, tied to the observing list but not part of the observing list.  There are several ways you can now see your observations.

    1.  In the list itself you should still see the object check if you have made an observation an tied it to this observing list.  By tapping it you will see the "Edit Observation" option where you can see it.

    2. You can go to the Observations list and pick a Session to see all observations made during a particular observing session.

    3. You can show the Object Info for an object and chose "Show Observations" from the More popup.

One big change in SS6 is that Observation no longer have to be tied to an observing list.  You can select an object and chose "Create New Observation" from the Selection popup menu.  This observation is not tied to an observing list.

What is it you are trying to print?  Are you looking for the observations in a list of do you want the objects in the list itself.  You can still email a list to yourself for printing but this will be in our Object List format.  You can also download a CSV formatted list of your observations from LiveSky.  Eventually we will have that directly in the app as well.

    Bill,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to play with it. I don’t think it’s doing what I expected. I had thought the observation would show I had already observed the object in another list so it would be checked off and I would not be observing it twice. I have a lot of objects on multiple lists. Is there a way it will show as observed for multiple lists when I go to print it?

In SS4 I could select CSV text format and send that with the observation list.  I print a hard copy for my observation records and to submit to Astroleague for completed programs. How do I go baout doing this now?

“In the list itself you should still see the object check if you have made an observation an tied it to this observing list. By tapping it you will see the "Edit Observation" option where you can see it.”

Would I change something here to tie it in? Tie it to the list it was originally observed on? Will this change the original list?

Someone else has reported this problem as well.  For them it was because in the iOS Accessibility settings they had chosen turned Larger Text ON.  This allows you to specify even larger text that is normally allowed in the iOS settings.

This appears to be an iOS bug in that it is not resizing the "cells" that contain the options correctly.

Regarding your other question about tying the observation to al list.  If you make the observation from the the list itself, it is automatically tied to the list.  If yo man a stand alone observation, you can set the list by tapping the Observing List option in the Observation.  This will bring up a picker showing all observing list that already contain that object.

If this is a list that was imported from SS5 that contained observations, it should automatically tie the two together.

I just reduced the font size in ipad settings and that fixed the problem of the font size.

It is imported from last SS, my question is now about printing it to show its been observed on the new list? It doesnt show its been observed on the new list or check it off. I have been manually doing this and saying “previously observed” but was hoping when its printed, all of these observations will show up.

When you export an observing list, it doesn't (I don't think) mark it as being observed.  I suspect we can add that.  Let me talk to the team.

In the object on the Hershel 400list (my example), if I select edit/create observation it will then show what lists the object was observed from prior. Would I change the list to the one with the previous observation? Does this change the previous list? Sorry I wish I could be more clear about what information I am looking for.

No, it will not show other observations.  You can only attach a single observation to an object in a list.  However, you can make many observations of an object.  Some can be attached to lists and some can be free standing (your choice).  If yo want to see all your observation of an object, choose "Show Observations" from the Selection popup.

Thanks Bill, one last question. If I delete the app can I reinstall it later? I would be missing out of one of the functions I use most whcih is printing out my observations.

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Cindy,

Sure you can uninstall and reinstall later.  The App Store will just show a "download" icon rather than a purchase button.

You should be able to retrieve your observations in CSV format from LiveSky currently.  This can be put into a spreadsheet and printed.
