New Version

Hello,

I have been using starry night pro plus since version 2. I was just wondering if there was another version or update going to be released in the near future and that will be able to take advantage of updated and new images from JWT. Have not seen a new version in a long, long time.

    Andre,

At this time, there is no plan for Starry Night Version 9.

Developers are very busy on other projects.

Thanks for showing your love and support for SN!

So this is an official announcement that you've killed Starry Night?

    David,

Copied from my reply elsewhere in the forums:

Thanks for showing your love for Starry Night.

In the last 25 years, we have gone from Mac to Windows, then including SkySafari on iOS and Android, and now we have web-based versions of SkySafari as well as LiveSky.com.

Our company is absolutely committed to future development of professional astronomy software.  But, the times and platforms have changed significantly.  And it could be that a future version of Starry Night will be web-based rather than downloadable.

No final decision has been made with regards to Starry Night.

And, the program is still going strong.

    Thanks for the response.

Just as an FYI, a web-based Starry Night is not a product I personally would be interested in paying for.

We understand many will have reservations.  Your feedback is important to us.

    Thanks, David!

    Hello,

I understand David Craig's reservations. But there could be benefits for a web-based SN, i.e.:

A continuous update of JWT images as well as other  space observatories into SN as opposed to the older images in SN

Realtime angular separation between celestial bodies (angular separation not updating on any scale)

    Realtime Celestial Events

The down side would be possible network bottlenecks

Keiron is there a timeline as to when discussions will begin on the next SN and the possible platforms. Its has been years since we have heard anything in reference to SN let alone an update.

    Regards,

    Andre
