I'm using Starry Night Pro Plus version 8 and all of a sudden I've lost all of my saved equipment and Field of View indicators. Any idea what happened how I might recover them?

Keiron Smith Mark,
Pease logout/login to LiveSky again.
LiveSky syncs your data via the web.
Try that first.
Thanks!

Mark Poole Thanks Keiron, but I've never had a need to use LiveSky and didn't know that this was the only way that my equipment data could be recovered. The real problem (that needs to be solved) is in determining why my data isn't available any more. Where does the data get stored? Maybe it's there and got renamed somehow. My system hasn't crashed, I haven't done anything to my computer in the past three weeks yet my data is gone. Assuming that I were to create a LiveSky account, do I have to login to it every time that I use SN to make sure my data is getting backed up?

Keiron Smith Mark,
Please read here:
Importing SN6 data to SN7/SN8 (Or: How I learned to stop worrying and love Sky Data overrides.)
Data is stored both locally on your hard drive, in the Sky Data folder AND in LiveSky.com, provided your setup an account and login using SN8. You need only create the account and login once. Every time you start SN8 you will be automatically logged in.
Questions:
- How did you add your equipment into SN8? Did you import it? Add files manually? Add equipment via the app?
- In your Starry Night Prefs 8 > Sky Data folder > do you find an Equipment Folder ( with Telescopes.txt, Eyepieces.txt, Anything.txt, etc.)?
Thanks!

Mark Poole Hi Keiron,
1) I added my equipment within the SN8 app using Observe - Equipment - Telescopes, etc. and created my FOV indicators using Observe - FOV Indicators.
2) No, there is NOT an Equipment folder (see below)

Keiron Smith Apologies, the equipment folder may be in Starry Night Prefs 8 > Equipment

Keiron Smith How much equipment did you add? Can you add it again? If so, add it via LiveSky.com (login to the website and see the options).
The sync to SN8 using the LiveSky login in the app.

Mark Poole As a test, I just created a new Telescope entry using Observe - Equipment - Telescopes and saved it. I then closed SN8 and then re-started it. My new telescope entry was there. But, there is NO "Equipment" folder or telescopes.txt file anywhere in the Simulation Curriculum folder. Where is it being stored??

Mark Poole Another test: I just logged in to LiveSky and my new telescope entry is there so the automatic update is working. I can't create new entries there (as you suggested) because I don't have a Premium subscription. My preference is still to find my original data file with all of my entries and recover it in some way to save me all the work of recreating it.

Mark Poole Ok Keiron, I just rebuilt all of my equipment and fields of view while also logged into livesky.com and I could see all of them get replicated there. Do I have to ALWAYS log into Livesky.com so that my new entries get replicated there, or does it happen automatically now? Thanks, Mark

Keiron Smith You do need to be logged into LiveSky via the app (Starry Night of SkySafari) in order to backup and sync your data.
You don't need to be logged into LiveSky.com, via the website, in order for your app(s) to backup and sync the data.
Happy all is working properly for you now!
Thanks!

Mark Poole Ok, thanks for the help!
