How Come Star Names Are Showing Up As The Underlying Star Magnitudes? (Answer: Weird App State, Default Settings Reset Fixed It)

I have turned on labels for star names, but when I hover over a star, instead of the name popping up, the apparent magnitude pops up (see attached image).  The apparent magnitude is also listed, but not the name.  The star in the attached image is Canopus, which is indeed magnitude -0.63.

In short, how do I get the star's name to appear?

Both computer and SN8 are running the most recent update.  This is on a MacBook Air...

    John,

Seems Starry Night is in a weird state.  Here is what you can do.

Disable Apparent Magnitude in the Settings > HUD.  What happens?

If that doesn't fix it, try reseting to defaults (top right corner).

And if that doesn't fix it, try reinstall the program.

Before reinstalling, make sure you first BACKUP your data using Observe > LiveSky account (and enable Backup Data To Cloud & Sync With Cloud Now.

    Thanks!

Thanks!  Some good news / bad news...  Nothing but reseting to defaults worked, BUT now I'm getting a message that says "Starry Night shut down unexpectedly".   I will keep an eye on that and see how it goes before I do a reinstall.  I very much appreciate your guidance thus far -
