What To Do When SkySafari 7 Pro Disconnects From The Celestron SkyPortal WiFi Network? (Answer: Read On!)

I have noticed that while experimenting with SkySafari 7 Pro for iOS to control a Celestron NexStar 6SE, I get frequent disconnections. I am using a Celestron SkyPortal WiFi module in access point mode. If the link between the telescope and the app is lost, will the alignment before the disconnect still be valid if reconnected? If the reconnection fails, what do I do? It seems like the only thing that works at this point is to turn the telescope mount off/on, losing the previous alignment. I guess I could just use the Celestron hand control rather than starting over. Thanks. Gordon

After disconnection, you should be able to reconnect again without aligning the scope again.  You may need to use the "Align" feature/button to tweak the current alignment model.  Thanks!

Keiron. If power is lost to the mount, will I need to realign the mount again? Gordon

When using Celestron WiFi, the alignment model is stored in the app.  I would think losing power is the same as disconnecting.  You should be able to reconnect and continue using the app without aligning the scope again.  But, you may need to use the "Align" feature/button to tweak the current alignment model.  The longer your disconnection, the longer your drift away from accuracy.  After a certain amount of time you will want to align the mount again.
