The way you do with goggle Earth, for example? This seems like such an obvious need for most users, yet I can't seem to find a way to do it. There are dozens of objects who's location I can't memorize, for pete's sake. I don't want to do a "find" every time I want to go there again! Let us put in a place mark and save it in our default file, please.

Keiron Smith Option: 1.
1. Blast off with spaceship mode, so you are above the earth.
2. Right click on the Earth and choose Markers and Outlines.
3. Select cities from the list.
Option 2:
1. Right click anywhere on the Earth. You will see the longitude and latitude next to an option to bring up Google Maps for that location.
2. Select "Mark". This will mark the globe with the name of that location. See attached image.
3. Do this as many times as you want.

Jack No, that is not what I mean. I want placemarks for celestial objects. Or SOME sort of marker.
Example: Why can't I select Orion, and then save that, so that every time I open SN, the outline is still there, as if it is permanently "selected"?
Or, any particular Star, comet, nebulae, etc. Why can't I put a permanent, easy to see label on it? RED SHIFT can do this, and I truly need and miss this. I might have to switch back over to RS, just for this reason alone.
This, to me, is a glaring shortcoming. -
Keiron Smith Saving Your Settings (page 65 in the User's Guide):
Now that you know all of the features for adjusting the appearance of the sky, you may wish to make some changes to Starry Night’s default settings. For example, you may want Starry Night to always open with daylight turned off.Choosing Options->Save Current Options as Default will save all of your appearance settings so that Starry Night will use these settings whenever you start the program or open a new window. This allows you to set up Starry Night to look exactly the way you like, every time you use the program.
Restoring Default Settings. Choosing Options->Presets->Default will restore all of the settings in Starry Night to the default values you have chosen (or the built-in default settings, if you have never used the Save Current Options as Default option). -
Jack Lol, Keiron, I know all that. Everything you've suggest so far I already know how to use and am familiar with. The above suggestions do not solve the problem. Go ahead and select the tea pot, for example. Get it nice and outlined. Now, select proxima centauri. Now, save SN it so it opens that way every time, with those two things already selected. It cannot be done. This seems so ridiculously fundamental a need, I'm surprised nobody else has posted here about it.

Keiron Smith I am sorry Jack. We have covered this ground before. Starry Night is supposed to work as you have discovered.
As I posted elsewhere " I see what you are talking about. It seems that specifics selections are not included within the "save the state of options" feature. From the options tab (on the the left or the drop down menu) there are an assortment of selectable categories (i.e. planets, asteroids, constellations, Tully 3D etc) and it is these categories that can be saved as on/off for the initial state. Selecting individual objects (i.e Orion Nebula, Jupiter, 2005 YU55) to be saved on/off for the initial state does not seem to work."
Maybe another user can offer a workaround. I see you have added it to the feature request forum, and thats great!
Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Jack Yes, Keiron, I added it to the forum here for those reasons, in fact, and also to possibly stir interest with other users in this idea, so that the developers might think about including it in an update. Thanks for your continued attention to me regarding this.
