How To Copy Data From SkySafari 5 Pro to SkySafari 6 Pro On MacOs?

I just purchased SS 6 Pro (6.0.2) on my Mac. The help section talks about how to get your data over from SS 5 Pro.

Because Mac App Store applications are constrained in what parts of the file system they can access, it is not possible for SkySafari 6 to automatically import your settings files, observing lists, equipment and custom locations from SkySafari 5. Here is what you need to do to manually import them.

  1. First make sure both the SkySafari 5 and SkySafari 6 applications are not running.

  2. Open a Finder window showing your old files. Choose Go > Go To Folder... from the Finder menu. Type in ~/Library and press Go. In the new Finder window, navigate to the SkySafari 5 documents folder:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.simulationcurriculum.SkySafari5Mac/Data/Library/Application Support/SkySafari 5

[Note: if you have SkySafari 5 Plus or Pro you will see Plus or Pro appended to SkySafari 5]

  3. Open a second Finder window for SkySafari 6. Choose File > New Finder Window and then Go > Go To Folder. Type in ~/Library and press Go. Navigate to to SkySafari 6 documents folder by following the above instructions but substituting "SkySafari 6" in place of "SkySafari 5".

  4. Delete all the files out of the SkySafari 6 folder.

  5. Copy all the files from your SkySafari 5 folder to the SkySafari 6 folder.

  6. You should now be able to restart SkySafari 6 and your settings and observing lists will be available after they are imported.

OK I did that but once I launch SS6 I don't see my equipment ( Telescopes and eyepieces ) listed.  HELP

    Anthony,

Not sure what is going on. I tested this pretty thoroughly and never saw a problem.  Is it just Equipment that is't being transferred?  Did you move over any observing lists or settings files.  Did you have a Location.txt file?  Do those show up in the Sites after transfer?

I had two observing list that did NOT come over as well.  I don't see a location.txt

Could it have something to do that I use iCloud in SS5 as the storage?

When I did the above copy I saw two files: Container.plist and the Data Folder.  removed those files from SS6 and copied the two files from SS5 in it's place... Now that I look I see this

Should I just copy the files from SS5 to SS6

To be honest, I'm a big confused by what you are showing me.  It looks like there is a SkySafari 5 Pro folder and a SkySafari 6 Folder in the same Application Support directory.  I wouldn't expect that.  There should be separate:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.simulationcurriculum.SkySafari5Mac/Data/Library/Application Support/SkySafari 5

    and

    ~/Library/Containers/com.simulationcurriculum.SkySafari6Mac/Data/Library/Application Support/SkySafari 6

folders but note that they are in different directories under Containers.  If you run SS5, select a new object and quit, you should see the History.txt file updated in the first directory.  I don't understand why you have a SkySafari 5 Pro folder alongside the SkySafari 6 one.

I would follow the instructions, deleting all the file in the SS6 folder and then copy those from SS5 into that folder.
