I have a SkyBT bluetooth unit that will pair with a bluetooth device (my galaxy S8) but then will not connect. I've tried to connect to other bluetooth i.e. wife's galaxy S6 and a tablet with the same result. What's the fix? It's gets discovered by the bluetooth devices but simply sits there in the paired folder without connecting when I try.

Bill Tschumy I'm going to convert this into a support ticket and we can handle it there. Troubleshooting this tends to end up asking a lot of questions that are not of general interest. One thing you should try is power cycling the SkyBT *after* you have connected it to the serial cable and scope. I have seen cases where it appears there is a stray signal in the device after it is connected and this can prevent the connection.

Kbakker52 Bill, I resolved the issue last night and the SkyBT is working correctly. The frustration I resolved was all USER error.. think of it as idiot tax for being an old man! :P
For anyone else facing this issue.. here is what I was doing wrong. I was trying to connect to the SkyBT like it was a stand alone device. Once I had sky safari up and running, I discovered the 'connect' feature in sky safari would connect. Prior to that I was trying to just click the Firefly*** on my bluetooth menu on the phone without using the Skysafari program and expecting it to connect..

Bill Tschumy Good to hear.

Robbie Thedford Hey guys,
Can you explain to me why my SkyBT is not discoverable as a Bluetooth device on my iPhone, iPad, a friends iPad? But my MacBook Pro sees the Firefly discover just fine? AND, when I do pair it with my laptop, it seems like it drops out after a couple of mins.
Is my SkyBT defective?

Bill Tschumy iOS doesn't support serial control via Bluetooth. That is why you don't see it. The SkyBT was designed as an Android scope control solution. It does work on Mac, but I have seen some Macs where the connection doesn't seem as stable as on Android.
Did you buy this thinking of using it on iOS? If so, you should return it and get SkyFi. The first line of our description of the product is:
"SkyBT® is our NEW solution for wireless telescope control for use with SkySafari on Android!"
-
Robbie Thedford Yeah, thanks. I bought it because I was thinking of keeping my Internet connection with WiFi and use Bluetooth for the telescope control.
Ok....well, that sucks. How do I initiate a return with you?
-
Robbie Thedford Also, bluetooth is much less expensive ;)
-
Bill Tschumy I have asked Keiron to contact you about a return.
Yes the SkyBT is less expensive, but it is also less capable. You can have SkyFi join your home network and then you can have scope control and Wi-Fi at the same time.

Keiron Smith Hi Robbie,
I'm going to convert this into a ticket, and therein show you how to return for refund or exchange.
Thanks!

Robbie Thedford Thanks Bill and Keiron.
Bill, can you point me to a link that shows me how to join it to my network? They sell these at our local Orion store so I may go in and demo one.
Also, speaking of which, I see the Celestron Auto-Alignment device that bolts on where the finder scope normally goes...Can that be used with an Orion Starseek 4? (my understanding is that these two scopes are basically really similar to each other).
Thank you.
