SkySafari 5 Pro | No ServoCAT GEN 3 Directional Buttons Show In GoTo Mode (Solution: Use ScopeType LX200, Read On!)

I recently bought a new dob which uses ServoCAT/Nexus/SkySafari for scope control. GOTO mode works fine, except the Directional buttons don't appear on the sides of the screen (or at all, for that matter.)  The ServoCAT hand controller buttons work fine, but my goal is using _just_ the Android tablet for scope control. Any suggests to solve this?

I'm using:

ServoCAT Gen 3

Nexus I

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

Android Version 7

The ability to move the scope via slew buttons was added in StellarCAT firmware version 62.P.  Before that there was no mechanism for 3rd party software to move the scope other than via GoTo.  Please see what firmware version you have and update if need be.  I believe the 62.P firmware was released a couple of years ago, so it is not exactly new.

Thank you for the response. Talked with Gary at ServoCAT ... I have version 7.0.C . This is the most recent firmware version. Any other ideas?

Can you see exactly what the ServoCAT reports as the version number.  Maybe Gary changed the format and we are not detecting it as greater than or equal to 62.P.  Is there really a "." between the 7 and the 0?

I spoke with Gary on the phone while he walked me through the process for determining the firmware version number. He says: If the red Aux led glows first during ServoCAT startup then the version is the most current - 7.0.C.  I don't recall if Gary specified "."s between the alphanumeric characters or I assumed them.

    Hello  Bill,

Just curious ... does the speed of movement generated by the SkySafari directional arrows follow the speed of the current mode indicated by the ServoCAT hand controller? or do they always move the scope at a predetermined speed (or speed of a predetermined mode)?

Could you capture a scope log file and send it to me (bill@simcur.com)?  This will let me see exactly what the firmware is returning for the version string an I can debug why this is failing for you.  It sounds like Gary changed the format on us.

The Help on the Scope Setup Settings has info on how to retrieve the scope log file.

We have four rate settings.  You adjust the speed using the rate slider above the scope control panel.  I don't know if the StellarCAT updates to correctly show the rate we last set it to.

Thanks for the reply. I've been using the ServoCAT hand controller for the last few weeks and am liking the idea of a dedicated-hardware directional control (instead of software buttons integrated into SkySafari.)

I think I'll stick with this method (for now.)

Thank you for your offer of help.

Thought I would provide an update for whomever might be interested. I recently upgraded to Nexus DSC and in my conversations with Serge, he suggested that I use the "LX200 Classic" scope type within SkySafari (I have a large ServoCAT-driven Dob). I gave this a try and, sure enough,  the directional buttons and slew now work within SkySafari to control ServoCAT. You might want to ask him his reasoning for this.

Just logged in to new forum.  I also have no direction arrows on my servocat connected SkySafari Pro.  Will try the LX200 classic ??

Glad to be back under the stars after a couple of years absence.
