SkySafari 6 Pro | How To Save A FOV On The Main Screen Into A Settings File, That Can Be Loaded Again To Show The Same FOV Again On The Main Screen?

When loading saved settings in SkySafari 6, the app doesn't load my saved FOV.

This seems like a bug, it worked fine on SkySafari 5.

The FOVs are not stored in the Saved Servings.  In SS5 they were in the Equipment.txt file.

Are you saying that your FOVs didn't migrate from SS5?  Did you copy the Equipment.txt file?

Or are you saying that if you define new FOV indicators in SS6, they are not being saved?

I saved new settings for SkySafari 6 with diferent FOVs and when I try to load them, the FOVs don't load, even though the settings description says it has a FOV value.

The description is saying what the overall fOV of the chart is.  This is unrelated to he circular FOV indicators.

As mentioned above, FOV indicators are not stored in the setting files.  They haven't been for about 3 years (since SS4).  FOV indicators are part of the saved data that gets synced to the LiveSky cloud.

That's strange. My saved FOVs were getting loaded in SS5.

Is it possible to get that feature back in SS6?

Please explain what you are trying to do.  This should work almost exactly like SS5 except the FOVs are not stored in a file.

I need to be able to save FOVs in the settings file so I can load them afterwards.

You haven't been able to do that since SS4.  That is not the way FOV indicators work.

Please tell me what you are trying to do.  I assume that if you create a FOV indicator, it is still there when you reload the app?  Why do you need it to be part of the settings file?

I want to save whatever FOV I have in the main screen of the app into a settings file, so then I can just load that settings file and have the same FOV in the main screen.

I use FOVs for astrophotography. Different lenses and camera combinations have different FOVs and having the FOV saved allows me to quickly know the size of the Milky Way given a specific lens + camera combination.

I swear this was working in SS5, I was using it until I updated to SS6.

    Hi Leandro,

    Please do the following:

    1. Arrange SkySafari with the FOV you want.  Take a screenshot.
    2. Go to Settings > User Data > Save & Restore Settings > Create New Saved Setting > Rename New Setting > Done
    3. Re-Arrange SkySafari with a different FOV.
    4. Go to Settings > User Data > Save & Restore Settings > Select the previously saved setting.  Take a screenshot.
    5. Attach both screenshots to your post here.

Is there a difference between the FOV in Step #1 and the FOV in Step #4?  They are the same for me.  Note, in my image below what I am referring to when I say "FOV"

If this step-by-step doesn't not identify the issue you are encountering then please provide additional steps and additional screenshot(s) to illustrate what is happening, what you are trying to accomplish.

The FOVs are not the same for me. It's not loading correctly.

I see now the issue has to do with this your using SkySafari 6 - the basic version.  Whereas I'm using SkySafari 6 Pro.  Were you also using the basic version of SkySafari 5?

    Thanks!

    Leandro,

Now I understand what you are referring to.  In Plus and Pro you can define FOV indicators based on your equipment and display them on the chart.  You are referring to overall FOV of the chart itself.  I can confirm that something strange is happening with saving and restoring the chart FOV in the basic version.  I will look into this ASAP and get it fixed.

OK, I see where the bug came from.  This will be fixed in the next release which should come out in a couple of days.
