LiveSky.com | Is Internet Connectivity Required To Access Observations (Answer: No, Observations Are Stored Locally)

Hello everybody, is it right that SS6 android cannot load the stored observations into the observation lists if there is no

connection to the lifesky server??? I switched off my wifi on my Nexus 10 tablet... the observation lists are there, the

belonging observations (with the check at the beginning) are missing

If I'm in the field with no internet signal that's a problem, SS5 stored all data in the device??

No, everything is stored locally on the device as well as synced to our server.  It should work just fine without an internet connection.

    thank you for your answer

I just tested again: switched off Wifi on my Nexus 10....  opened SS6.... the observing lists are there but no observations checked, played

around for about 5 minutes... nothing happens for the recent observations
for example: the list "my favorites" must have 18 observations

I'm not seeing that.  Observed objects are still checked for me without internet.

Could you try killing SkySafari before restarting to see if that makes a difference?  Perhaps we have something cached that shouldn't be.

    ok..... new test:

I switched my Nexus off and on again.....  Wifi off from the beginning , SS6 started and after 5 Minutes still no observations occur in the observation lists

And have you started with Wi-Fi on just to make sure they *do* show then?  I can't think of an explanation why this would not be working for you, but we can investigate.

no Wifi was off from the beginning, the tablet started with Wifi off

Yes, I understand.  Please start it with Wi-Fi ON and see if the observations show up then.

Did it really take 2-3 minutes for them to appear?  That seems unusually long.  Normally it should be a couple of seconds.  Now if you turn Wi-Fi off again do they disappear?

    yes it takes this time.....

after turning wifi off the observations remain

I don't have an explanation for what you saw.  I'd encourage you to play around and see if you can raise any more anomalies.  We tested this pretty thoroughly, but there are a lot of possible configurations and maybe something slipped through the cracks.

You previously must of hit some subtle bug we are not aware of.  We are not able to reproduce it on any of our devices.

Hello Bill, some good news.... I deinstalled SS6 on my Nexus 10 (on this device I had the mistake)

reinstalled and logged into Livesky to receive my observing lists... and now the observations remain marked even

without Wifi and also they appear quicker

on this device I copied the files from version 5 to version 6 directories and tested the beta version
