I am using the latest IOS and SkySafari 6 Pro versions on an iPhone 6. About two upgrades ago I noticed that SkySafari was frozen upon startup for around 15 seconds. I deleted the app then reloaded but, still freezes. After it becomes unfrozen it works fine. I have an iPad with SkySafari 6 Pro too yet it doesn't freeze on startup. Anyone have an idea what causes this?

btsloan123 I tried turning off all the stars and planets and deep sky objects with nothing showing on the screen, yet it is still frozen for 15 seconds at startup. Anyone else has this problem? Either one of SkySafari 6 pro updates for the iPhone has a bug or maybe it has conflict with another app that I have loaded in the past two months. I do not have this problem with my iPad. Not for sure what to try next except deleting other apps to see if that fixes the problem. I need some ideas!!!

Bill Tschumy I don't see this on my iOS devices.
- When does it freeze?
- Has anything been drawn on the screen when it happens?
- Have you purchased any of the PGC or GAIA add-on databases?
Please try rebooting your device and see if that makes a difference.

btsloan123 It is frozen on launch with the star map showing. It seemed to have started about two upgrades ago. I thought there might be a conflict with other apps on my iPhone 6 running the latest IOS 12 so I deleted almost all my other apps. It still freezes. I thought maybe I had too many photo on my phone so I deleted almost 400 photos and videos, nope still freezes. I have reinstalled SkySafari 6 Pro twice and still freezes on launch. As mention in the former post I turn off the stars, deep sky object, solar system, yet it still freezes on launch. I have not purchased any of the PGC or GAIA add-on databases. If I open other apps then return to SkySafari, it operates normally. If I quit SkySafari 6 Pro then relaunch it's frozen. I do have SkySafari 6 basic and it doesn't freeze on launch. I have a iPad Air and SkySafari 6 Pro runs normally on it. I don't know what to try next or just live with it. After the freeze is gone it runs normally. Maybe it just still in the launch startup mode with the sky map showing. No nothing has been drawn on the screen when I launch.

Bill Tschumy This is very strange. Do you have an large number of observing lists or observations in the LiveSky account you are using? That shouldn't be a problem but I'm just trying to understand your setup.
Other apps shouldn't cause this and it is unlikely that space is an issue.
Do you have normal Wi-Fi access on the phone? Does it make any difference if you are connected to Wi-Fi or not. I'm wondering if there is some internet access that is hanging and waiting for a time out. I would try running with and without Wi-Fi turned on and with and without cell data enabled.

btsloan123 I think I have find the problem. You mentioned large number of observing lists which I do have, so I deleted SkySafari 6 pro from my phone and reinstalled. Before I launched the app I turned off the internet connection so LiveSky would not reload my data. Lo and behold there was no freeze on launching. Once I turned back on the internet and verified that my Observing lists were listed again the app would freeze again on launching. Will do more testing by eliminating Observing lists a few at a time, same with observations, and equipment lists until the app doesn't freeze at launch. Also will count the number of Observing lists, and observations and equipment that are in the app.

Bill Tschumy The app should be able to handle a large number of observing lists with out freezing. All the processing of them happens in a background thread at startup. The main user interface thread should not be effected. If you find a particular observing list that is causing this, I'd like to know.

btsloan123 Found the offending Observer list. It was “Asteroids”. It has 998 objects in the list. No other Observer list has as many objects, not even close. Not for sure where I downloaded ”Asteroids”. I must have downloaded on my iPhone then LiveSky put it on my IiPad. LiveSky must have put this Obseving list recently on my iPad because it had not been freezing on launch before. Once removed no freeze on the iPad.

Bill Tschumy Could you email that to me at "bill@simcur.com"? I'd like to investigate what is causing the problem.

btsloan123 I sorry I already delete the "Asteroids" skylist. I have tried to find it again to no avail. Will keep trying to find it. I was surprised that I even had it listed because I don't remember loading it. I never look at asteroids anyway. It may at one time been in the "Import From Online Repository". I checked there and didn't see it. Oh, it wasn't in LiveSky either.

Bill Tschumy I don't think we have an asteroids list in the repository. Perhaps you used the Planner (or old Advanced Search) to make it. You could also have turned our built-in "Brightest Asteroids" list into an observing list. I will play around with it.
