What Objects Can You "Go To" or "Go There" in Starry Night 8?

SN8 lets you "GoTo" objects and observe from that point.  What extra-solar system objects can you Go To?  For example, I wanted to Go To the LMC but the option to go there is not available.   The User Manual does mention the possibility of "going" to extra-solar system objects, but I don't know where this is available.

    Hi David,

You can "Go There" to any objects that are modelled in 3D.  This includes all exoplanets, all stars, and now included binary stars too.

There is a Galactic Galaxy Database with hundred of thousands objects.  Many (but not all) of which are modelled in 3D and can be visited.

Given the number of 3D models that can be visited providing a complete list would be an extraordinary task.  So, instead, feel free to poke around in SN8 for the "Go There" opportunity every chance you get.

    Thanks!

OK - but I am curious about why the LMC and SMC are not modeled in 3D - is the distance data not available?  What I really wanted to do was to "go to" the LMC and then look back at the Milky Way to see what it would look like from the outside.  If other galaxies are modeled, it seems the LMC and SMC should be too.  For those of us in the northern hemisphere we are not going to see them in the "real" night sky, but they are very visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

(Incidentally, I know this question is about SN8 - but I also own SkySafari 6 Pro, and that system does let you "Go To" the LMC - but nothing is visible when I do that - just an empty screen, and even scrolling around doesn't reveal the cloud.  A nice feature, but it doesn't seem to work.  I know, I am obsessing about this capability, but I just think it would be very cool.)

    HI David,

Look in Favorites -> Deep Space -> Milky Way -> Local Group

    Neat- thanks for the directions!

(I was also going to see if I could "fly" the "Spaceship" out of the milky way.)

    Hi Keiron,

    SNpp8 on windows 10:

Why can one not currently go to double star systems like Porrima?

also, interestingly, for Castor, Beta Mon, etc "Go There" is only an option in the menu on one of the stars in the multiple systems so often it does not show up when right clicking from the normal sky view unless one zooms way in to see all components of the multiple star system...or from an observing list if one added the star in the pair that does not have the "Go There" option...

Also, the "constellation" of the star shown in the 'mouse over popup info" changes depending on the orientation of the 3D view...

Also, when outside the solar system, a star's label & or location is not matched...view seems to center on the label but the star is somewhere else

Also, is SimC working with the Gaia dataset?

    1) In the Gaia dataset Gaia Sky viewer shows stars with 3D positions in several of the globular clusters...being able to "Go There" to these stars would be very nice to have in SNpp8.

    2) also, my understanding from the DR2 paper is that Gaia DR2 matches well the Washington Visual Double Star Catalogue to with stars down to approx 2 arc seconds separation..see page 4 in this pdf "Gaia DR2 – Catalogue validation":
