Can SkyFi III Control SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 Via Mount's USB Port? (Answer: No, Unless Someone Can Confirm How)

Can the SkyFi III wireless adapter control a SkyWatcher AX-EQ5 mount via that mount's USB port?

Or must one use some sort of serial cable?

Thanks

As far as I know the connection must be made via the mount's hand controller.  Thanks!

It seems that the AZ-EQ5 USB port doesn't recognize the SkyFi III adapter.
It does work through the SynScan hand controller USB port.
Maybe SkyWatcher will work on this some day, because in principle it ought to work.
The manual says that port is simply a serial-to-USB translator.

Also, the power wires of the USB port on the hand controller are "live", so it seems likely - but don't know for sure - that the SkyFi III can draw power from the hand controller, thus keeping its battery from running down.

I think the SynScan database, and Ra/Dec calculations are all in the hand controller.  That's why the command prompts come and go through the hand controller.  I could be wrong, but happy to see you got it working.  Best to ask SkyWatcher about this, and please follow up with a comment here regarding what they say.

    Thanks!
