Sun and moon positions off at rise/set

On MacOS Mojave, 10.14 and SkySafari Pro 6.2.0. When I use the event dropdown on the clock to select rise or set for the sun or moon, the displayed image is off significantly.

For example, for sunrise today, 1/20/2019, computed is 7:49:30 am. But altitude is -0.38566 below horizon (see image). This is several minutes off.

Horizon is set to 0 elevation

    Sorry for the late response.

Please check to see if you have "Refraction" OFF in the Precession settings.  When refraction is not taken into account the sun is actually about 30' below the horizon at sunset.  Unless you are doing something unusual, you probably want to leave Refraction ON.

    right menu, wrong parameter.

refraction is on, but current epoch was off. At some point I had set to epoch 2000. I think to match some other charts.

enabled current epoch and now all are correct.

    Thanks.

Are you sure about this?  The epoch should not affect the Sun's position at sunset, and I don't see any effect when changing the epoch.  You might try switching the epoch again and see if you can reproduce this.

    definitely.

has an effect both on macOS and iOS.

    Mojave 10.14.3 SSP 6.2.0

    iOS 12.1.4 SSP 6.3.0

    steps to reproduce:

    uncheck current epoch, use 2000.0

    select moon

    select event moonrise

    select event moonset

    check current event

    select different event, say moonrise

just check/ uncheck does not immediately change position. you have to select a different event and come back

    select moonset

    same for sunrise, sunset

Ah, I had to revert to our shipping code to see this.  We did apparently fix this back on Dec 31st of last year but the fix has not been rolled out to production yet.  I didn't work on this code so I wasn't aware the bug could have this effect.  Sorry for doubting you.

In the shipping code the rise/set times for objects are suspect (by a minute or so) when to using the current epoch.

No problem. I know it's a job keeping track of versions and platforms.

Let me know if you need beta help.
