[UX Issue]* Functional Issues Searching For Observing Lists And Their Objects When Using Observing Lists Created On SkySafari

Starry Night Pro Plus 8.02.1718 the latest update on Windows 10

Viewing observing list the yes or no for Observed column is very inaccurate. I go to menu Observe- Observing list – pick an observing list and click edit. On Herschel II list which I got from SkySafari’s repository, it shows many objects as observed where there is no log entry in Starry Night, LiveSky or SkySafari. Some objects that I have multiple logs show “No” under observed. All other observing list shows similar inaccuracies. The inaccuracies are widespread making this important feature completely useless. When planning an observing session for the evening, it is essential to know what I have and have not observed. There is no easy way to do this in Starry Night.

Observing list from same menu when I click on from list button, it does not bring up the 200+ observing list from the repository. It is empty.

Observing list as displayed on the right-hand panel, there is a column header that says log Entries. This cannot be resized and displays nothing. If I hover, a button pops up to enter a log. It would be great if this had a check marking observed. It would be super groovy if you can quickly tell if an object has been observed or not when viewing observing list in the right-hand panel.

Advance Find, under the Observing Logs, completely and absolutely, 110% does not work in the slightest. All criteria and search parameters bring up 100% of my logs. There is no way to search and filter my logs.

Barnard dark nebula does not sync with SkySafari. When I add a Barnard dark nebula to an observing list in Starry Night, it syncs to SkySafari. When I view the list in SkySafari, it says object not recognized. I delete that entry in SkySafari and add the exact same Barnard object to the same observing list in SkySafari, then both software has the Barnard object listed without errors.

That’s it for now. I’ll keep looking. The new update is an improvement but there are more bugs to squash. Oh are you looking to hire someone for UAT? I could do that.

    Hi Shawn,

    Please clarify this point:

Observing list from same menu when I click on from list button, it does not bring up the 200+ observing list from the repository. It is empty.

Can you add a screenshot or two that clarifies what is happening here?

    Thanks for your reports!

    Everything else is still valid?

    And what is UAT?

    Thanks!

    Everything else is valid.

UAT is user acceptance testing, basically in house beta tester. I used to do it for a credit card processor.
