SkySafari 6 Pro On iOS Gets 'Sticky' During Scope Control Of Both Basic Encoder System + Nexus 2 AND Via CPC GoTo Mount (Answer: iOS Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings)

Lately, when using SS6Pro to control my telescopes with my iPad or iPhone, after some time (~10-15 minutes) the program gets 'sticky'.  The symptoms are that when I try to move the screen or magnify the screen, the response is delayed several seconds then the response pops to the new location, i.e., no smooth movement.  This makes it unusable and I have to shut down the app, reopen, reconnect and realign the scope.  This happens whether I am connected via the basic encoder system to my Nexus II enabled Alt-AZ push-to mount, or via the CPC GoTo mount in my observatory.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  It is very inconvenient to say the least and is making SS6Pro a real problem to use.  Both devices are running iOS v.12

    Hi SB,

    Are you using Celestron WiFi?

    Thanks!

    No. With CPC I'm using a pre-Orion SkyFi device. With my pushto it’s a Nexus II. Have been using both with no problem for years with CPC and about a year with Nexus II

    I had a similar problem with Nexus and iPad a few years ago  Serge at astrodevices suggested resetting the network settings on the ipad, which solved it for me:

    Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings

    Thanks, Mario, for sharing your experience!

    Fingers crossed that works for SB too.

    SB, please also clarify what you mean by pre-Orion SkyFi device.

    Thanks!

    Sorry for being unclear.  All I meant was I have one of what I think was either the 1st or 2nd versions of the SkyFi device that I purchased from your site.

    Mario- Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll give that a try.  May be a few days before I have time to test both of my systems though.  Will get back with results when I do.

    Unfortunately, network reset didn't work for me.  I got out last night and tested with my CPC/SkyFi setup.  At first I couldn't connect with my ipad (which I had done the 'reset network settings' action on), but couldn't connect with my iphone (on which I haven't reset network settings yet) eityher.  It was likely unrelated to this current problem, but I had to reset SkyFi and ensure setup was correct per the guidance for the device.  After that, both my ipad and iphone easily connected again (separately, not at the same time).  I then just used my ipad and after about 30 minutes the jerky/sticky behavior returned.  Disconnecting and reconnecting fixed the problem, as before, but this is really an inconvenience.

    It doesn't seem this is a SkyFi problem as I reset and restarted that device and the ipad connected and controlled the scope just fine.  Also, remember that this same behavior (jerky/sticky responses) happened when I used my Nexus II/Lostmandy AZ-8 setup.  So it seems to be a SS6 bug since I did the network setting reset on the ipad and the jerkiness reappeared.

    Sorry to hear that. I was using SS6 just last week on an iPad to control a Gemini/G-11 via SkyFi and it worked beautifully. The only place I've seen the jerky behavior is when using the Nexus. If you have a Mac with SkySafari I suggest trying that. If you get the same behavior, you can turn on logging which might help with a diagnosis. @Keiron: there's no way to log the serial line communication using iOS SS is there?  Idea: Perhaps if you put the SkyFi on a WiFi network you could use a computer to snoop the traffic?
