IP Address And Port Fields Remain Blank In SkySafari Pro 6.5.1.3 On iOS 13.2.2 (Answer: Issue Caused By iOS Dark Mode)

The IP address and Port number have disappeared from scope setup on my IPad pro. When I try to reenter them, I can type into the data entry fields and it appears to be entering something (cursor moves with each keystroke), but the numerals do not appear. I have tried closing the app and rebooting the IPad as suggested, but get the same result. I also have an older, regular IPad running version 6.5.0.1 and it functions normally. So I assume this is release related.

Please Advise.

    Hi Richard,

    1. What scope are you connecting to?
    2. What ScopeType have you selected?
    3. iOS version?
    4. Please add a screenshot with the data entry fields, showing where the numerals do not appear.

    Thanks!

Related to this post perhaps? :

Took a couple of reboots to get it working according to the other user. Might be a trend developing that needs looking into.

Thanks again, Dean!  Hopefully a reboot will fix it.  Will need a path to reproduction if we are going to hit this on the head.

    Hi Keiron,

I’m sorry but I couldn’t figure out how to make a screen shot of the Skysafari screen on my IPad, but here are my settings:

My scope mount is an Astro-Physics GTO4. Scope type field is “Astro-Physics GTO”

Mount Type is “Equatorial GoTo (German)”

    IOS version 13.2.2

“Auto-Detect SkyFi” is set to OFF

The “IP Address” and  “Port Number” fields show as rectangular data entry fields with no numerals in them.

When I try to enter data the cursor moves forward with each keystroke, but no numbers are displayed. The field

remains blank with the cursor at the position of the last keystroke.

Pressing the “x” as one would do to delete the data entry moves the cursor back to the beginning of the field.

I just tried entering the IP Address and Port Number even though they did not display and was able to connect to the mount.

So these fields are acting something like Password fields.

    I hope this helps.

    Richard,

    Did you try rebooting?

    Hi Keiron,

Yes , I did reboot. The IP Address and Port Number fields are still blank, but the data was retained because I was able to connect to my mount

    without re-entering the information.

When I touched each field, the cursor was in a position that appeared to be relative to the numbers I had entered, indicating that data was there.

That is, I entered 173.31.0.1 for the address and 23 for the port and the cursors appeared at about positions 10 and 2 respectively.

So it works as-is. it just doesn’t display the data entered.

    Hi Richard,

Please attach a screenshot showing the blank fields in question.

I can not reproduce this issue.  Perhaps someone else can.  Maybe it is specific to the iPad Pro?

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

This is happening to me as well. In my case, it has to do with dark mode. When I'm in standard 'clear' mode, all fields show ok, but as soon as I change into dark mode, all fields are black and also the text, so nothing is shown.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Jordi.

Edit: in my case, it's an iPhone X

    Great catch Jordi!

I was in DARK mode as well. I had just recently switched to DARK mode to try it out with one of the latest releases (currently13.2.2)...I don’t remember which one... and never switched back. The data entry fields evidently had data entered, because I could still connect to my mount, but the fields were dark and the dark numerals did not show up against the the dark fields.

When I switched to LIGHT mode, the fields had a white background with black numerals, just like the earlier release. This explains why the fields displayed normally on my old IPad, (rel 6.5.0.1) which does not have DARK mode.

Hey all! We've confirmed this and have a fix. Version 6.5.3 is currently in review by Apple, and should be out in a day or two. Thanks again for your reports!
