Can SkyFi-3 Replace The SynScan Hand Control For An Orion XTg (Answer: No)

I recently obtained an Orion XT12g GoTo dobsonian that was missing the SynScan hand controller.   Can the SkyFi 3 completely replace the SynScan hand controller, so that I can control the GoTo exclusively with Sky Safari on my phone/tablet?

  Hi Michael, 

  You need the SynScan hand controller to align your scope first, before connecting with SkySafari.

  If you want to use SkySafari please contact Orion for a replacement hand controller.

  Thanks Keiron, does the same apply to Intelliscope and its Object Locator?

  I'm not sure what the Object Locator is.  But, if it is required to make an alignment with the Intelliscope then yes the same still applies.  Note, also, the serial cable for the Intelliscope is different from serial cable required for other Orion scopes.  We do not sell the Intelliscope compatible serial cable.  If you don't have it please ask Orion about this as well.
