Pedro Braganca Hi, SkyWire is officially discontinued but should still be compatible with the latest iOS version and recent devices. If you are using SkySafari with SkyWire connected to your iPhone then SkySafari will use SkyWire (rather than Wi-Fi) to communicate with your telescope.

Lancehsch If SkySafari no longer supports skywire they should quit ambushing people because the Apple store specifically states skywire is supported.
All I wanted to do was wean my setup from a laptop to a IPhone.
My iPhone settings shows I have a rs232 connection when I plug in the dongle, when I plug in the cable that works fine with Starry Nights I get a communications failure notice.
V6 does not offer me any communication options.
Is there any way I can downgrade to a previous release that supports skywire? -
Pedro Braganca Hi Lance, i didn't say SkySafari 6 no longer support Skywire - only that SkyWire is no longer being sold. To be honest, I don't known much about SkyWire (and don't have one on me) so I'll wait for Keiron to pitch in with more advice. It could be that you you have the "Auto-detect SkyFi" option on (SkyWire is not wireless like our SkyFi product), or you need the right RS232 cable, or the serial cable is not being plugged in the bottom of hand controller.

Lancehsch Ok here is what I have
1. I went to iPhone settings, plugged in the Redpack and watched iPhone acknowledge it had a serial connection.
2. Next I went to SkySafari telescope settings and turned everything off.
3. Still no connection.
4. I unplugged the iPhone then took the same rs232 cable and plugged it into the laptop and it immediately worked.
5. I am running Starry Nights ver. 6.4.3 -
Keiron Smith Lance,
The RedPark cable is not the same as our SkyWire. We support the use of our own SkyWire with iOS devices.

Sorry, RedPark will not work.
Thanks!

George Samsa Hi,
I made the same mistake as Lance. I understood that the Skywire was discontinued as I couldn't find it anywhere online. However, I became confused by the Redpark link out on the Skywire page and thus purchased the Redpark Serial to Lightning (the link Keiron posted). Thus, I am out $90 and unable to use any of the things. I would have just purchased a SkyFi if I knew the Redpark wouldn't work. I accept that this is my fault, however I am still feeling frustrated. Since the product is discontinued, can you make it more clear that no other Serial to Lightning will work with SkySafari Pro.
thanks!

Keiron Smith George,
Where is the "...the Redpark link out on the Skywire page..." to which you refer?
Thanks!

Hi Keiron Smith
I'm not George, but I can tell you the link is on this page, near the bottom...

Since SkyWire is discontinued, I really wish there was a third party cable that would work. : (
