How To Connect SkySafari 6 Pro + iEQ45-GTN + StarFi? (Answer: User Gets Error Message And Needs Further Help)

Hi, Trying to use my iPhone 10 with my iEQ45-GTN mount and SkySafari PRO 6.7.0.1. Attached are pics of the config and error along with an error log.

Any clue?

    Hi Mike,

It is an excellent post, and I have been reviewing your updates.  To my eye, it looks like everything is correct.  So, I don't know what to say.

iOptron manufactured the StarFi and marketed support for SkySafari, all without consulting our developers.  We do not have an iOptron mount in-house.  And, the setup up has not been tested by any of us.

I suggest reaching out to iOptron support.  Link them to this forum post.  And, ask them for help.  They built it, they should know how it all works together.

Please update this post with their solution.

In the meantime, maybe another iOptron user will chip in here with advice or a solution.

    Thanks!

I'm a software test engineer at IBM. I know how to file tickets ;)

    Thanks for the response

The -13 error is a timeout.  The mount has not responded to SkySafari commands in the expected amount of time.  If you were using SkyFi 3 we could say this problem is generally caused by:

    1. Failure to star align the cope before trying to connect.

    2. Choosing the wrong scope type in the SkySafari settings.

    3. Some sort of cabling problem.  You must be using an iOptron-specific serial cable.  A random serial cable will not work.

However, you are using StarFi.  And, as I send previously, I'm not sure how that changes your setup, we were not consulted, and have not tested this ourselves.

cool, thanks. after working with iOptron we have these results

    With StarFi adapter

    • SkySafari 5 Pro can make the connection and goto, but does not support arrow key
    • SkySafari 6 Pro can’t connect to the mount.

    With SkyFi WIFI adapter

    • SkySafari 5 Pro can make the connection and goto, but does not support arrow key
    • SkySafari 6 Pro can’t connect to the mount.

so I wonder if there is an issue with SS6 pro. A change made from v5 to v6 broke something.

So it is not due to adapter.
