[Database Corrections] Why is Comet NeoWise Magnitude Incorrect? (Answer: Why Is The Magnitude For Comet 289P So Far Off? (Answer: SkySafari Gets Asteroid, Comet And Satellite Data From MinorPlanetCenter.Net)

I use SkySafari 6 Pro. My solar system bodies are current as of 4 July 2020. Comet Neowise is showing up as a Mag 9.6 object. Its current observed magnitude is 1.2. I can't find the comet data files to adjust the absolute magnitude and slope values so that the estimate comes in line with all the other planetarium software titles I use. Thank you.

    Hi John,

SkySafari gets the asteroid, comet, and satellite data from MinorPlanetCenter.Net

They will update and get it right (hopefully soon).

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,

I was actually asking for the location of the comet data file in the ss6 folder on my phone so that I can manually change the magnitude and slope numbers to come in line with what they should be.

Sorry, John, the comet data file is not accessible.

    Hi John,

I contacted the Minor Planet Center yesterday and they updated the magnitude.  Just pull the latest data by going to Settings-Solar System (scroll to the bottom) and Update Minor Planet Data.
