Why Can't I See Date And Time Using SN7 On macOS Catalina? (Answer: SN7 Is Not Compatible With macOS Catalina, Please Upgrade To SN8)

Probably a dumb problem, but I cannot see the date and time in Starry Night Orion SE 7. I just downloaded it to a new computer (macbook pro) and now the date and time show up as an ellipse whenever it is two digits or longer. It's as though the text wont fit in the provided space. I tried changing the font in preferences, but it only seems to change the font displayed when I click on an object in the sky, not the font displaying the date and time. To be clear, at 9:30 pm on July 14 2020, the date/time displays as " J...  ... CE    9:...:...    ...."

And sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot, I could not find a forum for my software. Thanks for the help!

    Hi Brian,

    Please upgrade to SN8.

This is an incompatibility between SN7 and macOS Catalina.  You have to upgrade to SN8 which is fully compatible with macOS Catalina.  You will get a significant discount for upgrading.

    Please see here: https://store.simulationcurriculum.com/collections/upgrades

    1. Choose your V8 program.
    2. Choose your Upgrade Discount:

Thanks for the response.  I have no interest in any of the upgrades / new features of SN 8. It seems that a system as expensive as SN 7 was should be maintained to the point where its basic functionality continues to work. At any rate, I don't mean to complain to you, I know it's not your fault. I just want to express my disappointment in this product essentially mandating a paid upgrade.

The discount on the upgrade is significant.  Thanks for your understanding, Brian.

The cheapest upgrade looks to be $35, a $15 discount. That is not a reasonable amount to pay for someone like me who hasn't used the software in several years and uses it annually at best. I maintain that a company should be morally obligated to maintain basic functionality of any product that it sells for such a high price. Upgrades should be optional, not mandatory.

You can get Pro 8 for $79.95 (reg: $149.99) and you can get Pro Plus 8 for $99.95 (reg: $249.99).  These are big discounts.

And, if you want telescope control you will need Pro or Pro Plus.
