[Beta] Why Does The Guide Chip FOV Indicator Behavior Differ Between SN8 Beta And SkySafari 6 Pro?

SF allows you to select both a camera and guide chip in SF when displaying a FOV indicator.  The result is the FOV of both the camera and the guide chip are overlaid.  The same thing does not work in SN8 Beta.  If a guide chip is selected it overrides the camera, and if a camera is selected it overrides the guide chip. The result is you cannot have the nested camera and guide chip FOVs unless you create a separate FOV indicator and turn them both on.

Also, there is a FOV cross-hair option in SF, but there doesn't appear to be in SN8 Beta unless I missed it somewhere.

    HI Eric,

Did the FOV of both the camera and chip guide work as you are expecting in the consumer (i.e. not the beta) version of SN8.  In other words, is this an issue that has only just been introduced in the beta?

Or, do you just expect SN8 to work like SF (I think you mean SkySafari)?

    Thanks!

I never had a chance to use the FOV indicator in the consumer version of SN8. I became a beta tester because of an equipment list bug which never allowed me to create FOV indicators. Yes, I meant SkySafari. I assumed SN8 would work like SS.

Have you tested the latest SN8 beta?

Howdy Keiron. I’ve been on a business trip. I’ll run it through it’s paces when I get back and let you know. Thanks.

I had a chance to check it out. It’s much better. Again, I’m basing my opinion on SkySafari Pro. If I had to give one criticism it would be that in SF you can tell the app what type of mount you use (a GEM in my case) and the FoV tracks accordingly. I can’t find a similar option in SN8. I haven’t tried it with my mount connected, but it would be preferable to have this feature even without the mount connected in order to use SN8 as a more effective planning tool. Side question for you: what’s the major benefit of upgrading to Pro Plus 8? Even on sale it seems like the majority of the $99 upgrade is the CCD photorealistic sky. Are there example anywhere that I can review? Also, if I upgraded would I still be able to be a beta tester? Thanks.
