How Come SkySafari 6 Pro on macOS 10.15.6 Will Not Launch After Restoring From Time Machine? (Answer: Read On!)

I recently had to rebuild by drive, reinstall macOS 10.15.6 on my 2015 MacBook Pro, and restore my apps from Time Machine.

When I try to launch SkySafari Pro 6, it first shows a banner saying that it's verifying.

Then it pops up a window to verify my Apple ID.

Then it goes into a loop saying that it is verifying. Never actually starts.

I uninstalled the app using CleanMyMacX and downloaded the app from the Apple App Store.

It goes through the same process, never actually starting up.

I have no problem with Starry Night Pro Plus 8 other than I haven't gotten my head around using it.

I have a second drive that I can boot up from that contains macOS 11 (beta), and SkySafari Pro 6 works fine there. And I have a 2014 Mac Mini running macOS 10.15.6 where SkySafari is working just fine.

    Please delete the app using the standard method right-click and Move to Trash.  Reboot your computer.  Download a new version again.

    Let us know what happens.

    Done that. Same error. Also happens with other apps, so it’s not your problem. It’s an Apple problem with my laptop.

    The problem may be with the way you have "restored" the apps.  You can't just drag them from Time Machine.  You have to restore the OS, and all the apps, all at once, using Time Machine.

    Yep, I’m aware of that.

    The way I “restored” the app was to get it from the App Store. And since I have the same problem with two other apps, it’s not your problem. Going to talk with Apple about that, but since it only happens on the Catalina version for this one computer and not the Big Sur version on the same computer, I’m going to let it go.
