How To Get The Time Zone Correct And Hour In Starry Night Pro Plus 8 (Answer: Use Observe > Sites > New To Create New Locations)

Hi.

I have a problem with my time zone and current time in SN Pro Plus 8 ( since initial version ). When I set the local coordinates it says that I'm in Time Zone -1 when in fact I'm in Time Zone 0.

When I force the time zone to the right one, when I get back to Viewing Location it says again -1. This bug makes the Time showed in the upper bar is always 1 ( if I force UTC ) or 2 hours before the current real time. It doesn't copy the System Time at all. It's quite annoying because sometimes I don't know if I'm looking the sky that is really the current one ( even showing 1 or 2 hours of difference ) or not. I have summit this bug several times and seems nobody is taking care of it.

Would be nice to have a fix in the next release or a workaround at least. People outside the major cities or countries who pay for StarryNight or SkySafari have the same rights to get fix the bugs that affect them too, I guess.

Thank you in advanced.

Regards

Antonio

    Hi Antonio,

Please use Observe > Sites > New > create your observing site via the map.  Does the fix it?

Hi, Keiron. That's just what I do always. The problem is that when I set the time zone to +0.0 when I save it or select a previous field it backs to -1.0. Same behavior in all SN8 versions. Here you have an example in StarryNight 8 and the same window in SkySafari 6 Pro with the right time zone for my location. The problem is that the time showed in StarryNight is always 2 or 1 hour behind the current local time ( 1 hour if I select the "Display Universal Time", 2 if I don't use this option ) and it's quite annoying.

When you selected your location via the map the time zone is set automatically.  Why are you changing the timezone that set automatically?

I do both ways, selecting in the map and introducing the data manually. In both cases it says I'm in Time Zone -1.0 when in fact I'm in Time Zone +0.0 and then the time in the app appears 2 hours less than the current time, 1 hour if I select "Display Universal Time" as can be seeing in these examples, after setting the location with the default -1.0 instead the real +0.0 that I can't set with these coordinates.

I will need to see the specific location to further troubleshoot.

Please send your workflow with visible location info via screenshot panels to ksmith@simcur.com

    Thanks!

Files received.  I don't know what the issue is.  I will ask the developers to review this.  However, I may have found a workaround for you.

In Starry Night > Set Home Location > My Sites > Choose your site > switch to the Longitude/Latitude tab > change the Time Zone to "Other" and make it "1.0" > Save As Home Location

Thank you, Keiron. Sorry to say that applying the workaround it makes the UT time shows all the time, enabling or disabling the Display Universal Time option, but not the real Current Time ( 1 hour less than current ). I think there would be one of these problems ( or both ):

    - That my area, Canary Islands, is assigned to the wrong Time Zone, as we are closer to the Iceland time zone ( -1.0 ) than the UK time zone ( +0.0 ) that is in fact our one.

    - That the Auto-Manage Daylight Saving Time is not really working. Disabling the option don't have any affect ( and it should )

Hope the developers can find a solution.

    Hello,

I also have the same problem in SNP8, I remember similar issue also in SNPP6.

An offset of just 1' on the lat or long affects the time zone, considering that the set coordinates are within the same time zone.

    Best regards.

    Hi.

In latest beta version ( 8.1.1.2073 - December/19/2020 18:59 EST ) these bugs are still there: The time zone remains in -1 even changing it manually and the current time is wrong as usual ( -1 hour less than current in my area )... Yes, it's a beta and will wait for further iterations.

New beta: (8.1.2.2103 - February/17/2021 17:34 EST) and all remain the same.... Seems is nothing urgent or important...
