Why Is The SN8 Camera FoV Rotation In SNP8 Is Alt-Az, Not Polar? (Answer: This Is By Design And Will Be Reviewed Again For SN9)

We asked half a year ago for an update on this bug. At that point, we'd been asking for this bug to be fixed for the previous year and a half.

SNP8 upgrade KILLED its usefulness for astrophotography by locking FoV to Alt-Az instead of being relative to the celestial grid (polar north reference).

Multiple people have asked for updates on this issue, and expected it to be corrected a long time ago.

We got a reply to "test the beta." The beta did NOT fix the issue. We replied as such. Subsequent releases have NOT fixed the issue.

Is there ANY way to get this fixed before we have to give SNP up for dead?

I don't have access to the beta, but just to be clear Tom, the way this is implemented in SN7 is that in Equipment when you specify a Telescope it gives you the choice of Mount being Alt/Az or Equatorial. Are you saying that there is no option in Equipment: Telescope to specify Mount type, or are you saying that even if you select Mount: Equatorial the FOV is still locked in Alt/Az?

Equipment:Telescope does not offer a choice. Telescope Setup (for use during scope control) does, but has no effect. The FOV is consistently locked in Alt/Az.

The FOV is locked in Alt/Az.  We know.  This is not a bug.  We will review this in the future.  Thank you for your feedback.

Wow. So, two years after we reported this loss of a feature from SNP7 and being told it's being worked on, we hear this problem is a FEATURE?

Glad I wasted two years waiting for the correct answer -- downgrade or abandon. Sigh.

It's not a feature.  It is the way the program works at this time.  We understand that a number of users want celestial alignment.  And, when possible,  developers will review the issue.

Apologies for not fulfilling this request in due time.

I've been a user since SN4.  I've been waiting for this bug to be fixed since SN8's release.  This will be the last version that I purchase.  It's time for me to move on to another program.
