Hi, SkySafari 6 Plus, Android 7.1.2. Recently had to reset my phone and reinstall everything. When I launched SkySafari, though, there's a progress bar across the middle of the screen saying 10 data files downloading ... The SkySafari UI is in the background and can't be accessed. Tried quitting, restarting, reinstalling ... nada. It sits there all day, not progressing. If I pull down the notification barI can see progress for downloading 'Additional file for Sky Safari 6 Plus' but that just continues forever ... I've got enough internal storage (plus SD card), and SkySafari worked fine up until the reset.

Keiron Smith Kevin,
We have a beta coming out that we believe fixes this issue.
Please apply for the beta in Google Play.
Thanks!

Kevin Quinn Hiya, just installed a beta and I'm afraid it's just the same. Version no 6.8.6.12
Update: ... well, that's not strictly true. It was the same, but then I tried the notifications off and on again tip, and the app now responds, without the 'downloading data files' pop up, but there's no stars visible. All my settings, observation lists, etc are there, but the screens just black ....
Update 2: I said my obs lists are there, but each item in the lists is like this:
[Unrecognized[ Whirlpool Galaxy
[Unrecognized] Pleiades
etc
Update 3: Looking in the search section of the app, there are no objects in any of the categories...

Keiron Smith Kevin,
Please delete and reinstall again.
Please let me know if you are downloading over WiFi or data?
Try disabling data, force the entire download over WiFi.
Thanks!

Kevin Quinn Thanks for the suggestion. No joy tho ....

Kevin Quinn Just just to clarify. Uninstalled the app, reinstalled the beta, let it download the additional files from the play store, when that was done I then launched the app, and immediately got the 10 data files downloading … 0% progress … all done on wifi. Did this 3 or 4 times with the same result

Keiron Smith Can you check what version you are running?
The latest is 6.8.6.14

Kevin Quinn It's what's available on the play store

Kevin Quinn I'm a beta tester for the app, but when I download it I get 6.8.6.12
-
Keiron Smith While you have joined the beta, the beta is not available immediately. Try again tonight.
Thanks!

Kevin Quinn Still no sign of 6.8.6.14 for 6+ ... Though I see that it's available for 6pro. All I'm seeing is 6.8.6.12
-
Keiron Smith Apologies, Kevin. Developers confirmed for me that 6.8.6.12 is the latest (beta) version for Plus.
-
Kevin Quinn Presumably an update’s on the way for 6+ …. ?
-
Keiron Smith Yes, .14 should be available later this evening or tomorrow morning.
Please let us know if you fair any better with the .14 update.
Thanks!

Kevin Quinn Well, I downloaded the app again, version 6.86.14, still the same though. Endlessly downloading additional files, never finishes, no stars showing on the screen, app unusable. 🙂
-
Keiron Smith If you quit and restart the app should download more data. Then quit and restart, the app will download more again.
Repeat until it has downloaded all the files successfully.
Thanks!
-
Kevin Quinn Yeah, been trying that since I got the suggestion, gonna give up now. App now shows stars, etc, but the downloading data files pop up is still there (now on 6). Hoping for a proper fix soon.

Keiron Smith Keep quitting the app, restarting the app. Try a 5-10 more times. Every time give it a chance to download a little more.
Also, make sure you are connected to WiFi.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Thanks!

Keiron Smith Kevin,
Try this:
- Uninstall the app
- Using a file browser, go to the top level of the Internal Storage and RENAME the directory "SkySafari 6 Pro" as "SkySafari 6 Pro-old"
- Now reinstall the app and try again.
Sorry for all the hoop-jumping.
-
Kevin Quinn Thanks Kieron, I had a look for the folder you mentioned, but didn’t see it. Im going to hold off until the new handset arrives on Friday, and will try again then.
Thanks for all your help.

Kevin Quinn Hiya. Just to let you know, Skysafari 6+ installed fine on my new phone, so I guess my old one had a random glitch or something.
Thanks for the support.
