How Come SkyGuide Is Not Displaying Any Information? (Answer: Contact Support For A Workaround Solution)

Personally, as for me, I'd rather not uninstall and reinstall a bunch of times, because I've spent hours and hours (days, in fact) tuning my install exactly the way I want it. I'd rather not take a chance on something not being restored by a preferences file - just in case something is not tied to the preferences file. So I guess what I'm hoping and praying for is a software release update that would address this glitch once and for all? I've not invested in the "plus" version... so I'm "all in." I always brag about Starry Night pro, both in person, as well as on CloudyNights forum -- and in these training videos. But when the SkyGuide is blank, I don't conceal that from the people with whom I'm sharing, obviously. So for example, see this message on CloudyNights in which I ask, "Could Starry Night Pro be the ultimate powerhouse planetarium software for both amateur and professional astronomers alike because it's so rich in information and power?" But because of my commitment to be honest, I also mention the glitch in the Sky Guide, here:

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/801423-1000-reasons-im-loving-my-rediscovery-of-starry-night-pro-8/?p=11656403

I'll also report back if Starry Night addresses the glitch of course - and that will help fellow amateurs see that Sim Curr responds to paying customers unlike many other planetarium software products on the market.

Thanks for any help you can give us. From what I can see, this has been a recurring problem and I can't find that it's ever been fixed yet. Thanks again.

Doug

I think it's awesome that Keiron has prompted customer support to do a log-in to my laptop to try to determine why the Sky Guide has disappeared. We'll see if they can solve it. Three cheers for Keiron.

Just registering here -- that, even though I have Starry Night Pro Plus (a fairly expensive paid edition planetarium), I just want to be honest - I still haven't heard back from anyone at Sim Cur about why this might be happening and why this software has a broken Sky Guide panel. No one from Customer Support has contacted me about logging into my laptop. And from what I can see, other users have been talking about this problem for weeks. I love Starry Night Pro. I'm a strong advocate. I just want to know that ... the software for which I'm advocating will work effectively AND that its staff are willing to help us when there are problems. I say that with the deepest respect and a positive belief in the future.

What is the fix, please?  I'm still awaiting a solution after a fair amount of time has elapsed.

Answered in the other thread - do you happen to have a copy of Starry Night Celestron SE?

I looked but could not find the solution, apart from uninstalling and reinstalling repeatedly?  No, I do not have the Celestron SE version.

Keiron - how would you like to approach things with Christophkaye? This is your call.

Christophkaye, please stand by for a message from Keiron.

Update to this discussion, the solution, at this time, is a workaround, requiring the install of another version of Starry Night.

Christoph installed Enthusiast 8 and the SkyGuide was restored for his install of Pro 8.
