    Phil,

Your scope has to be star aligned.in order for SkySafari to connect to the mount.

Your mount does not look like it is aligned.

Please star-align the mount and try again.

    Thanks!

Well obviously I have just got the equipment out to show how it is set up. But when I was out observing,  it was star aligned and I still got the connection failure. Any other reason why I would get this error?

I think it would be best to assemble to scope in order to troubleshoot.

If nothing has changed about your setup then look at:

Is the SkySafari Scope Type Setting?

Cables: confirm the RS232 cable works using other software.  Your cable is knotted.  Maybe it is broken.

SkyFi 3 (could be cleaned up to ensure the ports can communicate data.

If nothing about your setup has changed between since it all last worked then look at the hardware.

Do you have an older Android phone, running an earlier version of Android OS?  If so, try that just in case there is an issue with Android 11 (I don't think so).

i tried with an old phone running Android 10, also tried with a new cable. Also checked the scope setting was correct, it was. Skyfie 3 cleaned up.  In all  cases the problem is the same and is unresolved. Any other ideas?

I think you should try controlling the scope from a desktop computer using a serial-to-usb connection, to confirm the issue is not with the scope, hand controller or cable.  If that works, you can try integrating SkyFi 3 back into the setup.  Stellarium (free) should work with a desktop connection.

Probably YouTube will have a video about Stellarium and telescope control.

i did buy the device becuase I thought i could avoid dealing with the headaches of trying to run the mount from the laptop which I had tried before and failed miserably
