Why Is There A Strange Haze Around Lit Objects? (Answer: iPad Pro Blooming, Read On!)

I’m not exactly sure how to describe this so that it can be recreated, but here goes.  I’m seeing a strange ‘haze’ around lit areas on the chart.  For example, any star, text, lines, anything, makes a small haze of light around it when zoomed in.  This is more apparent when I turn on the Apple red filter built into the OS and zoom in.  Since taking screen shots doesn’t capture that view, it just shows up as the normal chart.  It’s also worse when viewed at an angle.  I made sure my wife could see it too so I was sure I wasn’t just crazy. :)  This haze isn’t visible in Android and is very distracting.  I’m seeing this in SS 6.8.5.2 and 7.0.3 on my iPad Pro 5th gen on 15.2.

    Chris,

I think you have been using SS6 on iOS for a long time now - and nothing has changed about the app in a long time either.  Are you just now noticing a haze?

Can you try another iOS device to rule out this being a device specific issue?

    Thanks!

    Hey Keiron--

I figured out what was going on, it's a problem with the screen on the iPad 5th gen.  Here's more info:
