StarSense Explorer functionality is now available for users of the Celestron StarSense Explorer telescope series.
The latest update takes the functionality previously only available via the Celestron StarSense Explorer app and integrates it into SkySafari 7 Pro.
A code is required to unlock this functionality. The code was delivered on a card inside the StarSense Explorer telescope box.
Lost StarSense Explorer unlock codes can be retrieved here: https://www.skysafariastronomy.com/retrieve/
To unlock this functionality on SkySafari 7 Pro do the following:
1. Menu > Settings.
2. Telescope Settings > Presets.
3. Add Preset.
4. Celestron Celestron SSE.
5. Enter your unlock code and email address.
6. CLOSE THE KEYBOARD and choose UNLOCK.
7. SUCCESS! Now tap OK. Then tap the BACK ARROW KEY at the top left.
8. Your SSE preset is available for selection. Make sure you have a checkmark next to the preset! Now tap the "X" in the top right to exit out.
9. Choose SCOPE from the main menu bar then choose CONNECT.
10. Start with NEEDS ALIGNMENT.
Enjoy!
Will you be making this available to Android users as well?
Yes, coming soon, Jeffrey! Thanks!
Soon? Please define your understanding of the word soon. This iOS version was created one year ago.
Jeffrey, I will ping developers with your request to get this feature added to Android. Sorry, I can not offer an ETA. Thanks for your feedback!
Is there any more news about the timescale for Android please?
This will be available in the next Android SS7 app update.
That's good news, thanks. When's the update likely to be - weeks, months or what? Cheers.
This new integration with StarSense is only available for owners of celestron telescopes?
Yes, StarSense integration is connected via Celestron WiFi as well.
is it possible to buy a starsense license without having a Celestron telescope?
No.
I have an iPhone 14 that has both SkySafari and StarSense Apps installed. I am able to calibrate the StarSense App fine, however, when I try the SkySafari App, I get no camera view when trying to follow the "needs alignment" process.
I do see the "Center Camera Over Mirror" menu title and buttons, however, the camera view is black.
What I have tried already:
- I have enabled the camera for the StarSafari pro app.
- I have reinstalled the SkySafari app
- turned on/off the Night Mode option
Are you please able to suggest how I can resolve this issue, please? Thank you
I have the same experience as „D P“.
Star Sense Explorer calibration just does not have access to the Camera in Sky Safari. But the Star Sense Explorer App just works fine.
Very disappointing!
Hope someone can help.
Please join the beta if you want to test the fix we are working on for the current issues.

Thanks!
hi is this compatible with StarSense for Skywatcher mounts? if so its not listed in the app....hence not clear. thanks
Jamie,
This documentation is about the Celestron StarSense Explorer series of telescopes.
If you are asking about Celestron's StarSense Camera Alignment technology I believe it should work to connect SS7 Pro to your SkyWatcher mount, as it likely uses the same Celestron WiFi connection protocol.
Thanks!
