Adding a 3DS Model via the Orbit Editor

    Follow

After you have downloaded your 3DS models, you can add them to Starry Night via the Orbit Editor feature. Right-click (windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on the object you want to add your 3DS model to and select either "Edit Surface Image/Model" or "Edit Orbital Elements" from its contextual menu.

In the dialog box that opens, click on the "Surface Image" tab and then on the "Open Model" button.  Select the 3DS model from the location on your hard disk where you saved the file.  Remember that 3DS files have a .3ds extension at the end of the file.

      To the software people.

I have to find and install an ISS 3D images myself.......Are you kidding me?  You should have a download free site for 3D images for all your satellites.  This is not good. I image the ISS and think this is something you should have in you Starry Night Po Plus 7. And it should be up to date. This is a starting point....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38oxpznR7Z4

Please search for the ISS and the select GoTo

      Kind regards,

      @ Lordhpilip

Don't worry, you're not alone, I have the same issue. BTW the one you select in your short movie isn't ISS. It seems ISS isn't present in their database.

Tried to find it in several ways:

      • Our Solar System > Space Missions
      • Favorites > Space Missions
      • Search
      • Display Options > Solar System > Space Missions
      • even checked in SkySafari on my iPad

None could show me the ISS. I guess they have a problem with their database. There is even an discussion about Starry Night 6, which doesn't show to correct location of ISS.

Also, when I use the function 'Update data files ...' it gives me the message nothing has been downloaded and that it's up to date. For a good tracking of ISS those files needs to be updated regularly. So there seems to be a problem there too. Seems they have the same problem with Starry Night 6. Is Simulation Curriculum updating their systems?

And last, I still consider Starry Night 7 to be beta and expect a lot of bugs to be solved with next update.

      So patients my friend

      Hi Kerion,

I'm a keen solar observer and of course no it would not be practical on other objects, but does Pro Plus for my Mac allow the .3ds surface model to be updated automatically, so the image of the sun is what is currently been seen, i.e. sunspots etc.

      Thanks

Please advise where compatible 3ds models can be found... I've tried creating new items in SNP8 and it does not allow me to add any 3ds files I find online..
