The correct time is shown when I start Starry Night, but the sun rises and sets at the wrong time. How do I fix this?

Most likely you have entered the wrong time zone for your home location. Choose Set Home Location from the File menu (Windows) or the Starry Night menu (Macintosh) to see what the time zone is set at, and change the time zone in this window if necessary. Also double check to see if the red circle is over your approximate home location in the world map.

I have tried everything given here but I have a problem.  I live in Costa Rica.  We don't have a time change here.  In order for my computer to be on the correct time that is here in Costa Rica, I have to be in the mountain time zone.  If I'm in that time zone until the US changes , my time is correct.  However, SNP still shows the sun rises and sets off by two hours.  Which I could understand if it was off by one hour, but none of this is making any sense.  Could you please help?

      Hi Steve,

Starry Night time is based on your computer operating system time. The two must be set correctly, and in sync. An error in either will result in a Starry Night error in calculation. For the moment, let us assume your operating system clock is set correctly. So, lets look at Starry Night.

If you go to File--->Set Home Location--->and then look at the "Map" tab, you will probably see that there is a little red "X" (which represents your location on the global map) somewhere in middle of the Atlantic Ocean or India or somewhere else. The little red "X" needs to be where you are actually located (as a timezone). It doesn't have to be on your exact city, but in the same general vicinity. Once the "X" has been located properly, your Starry Night time should read correctly. Please have a look at this, and let me know whether this resolves the issue for you.

In Starry Night please check the following:

      1. Go to File ---> Set Home Location ---> Choose your city from the "List" tab or by entering your zip code on the "Zip/Postal Code" tab.
      2. Go to the Map tab and make sure the X is position in the general vicinity. So long as the X is positioned just about right, that ok.
      3. Go to the "Latitude/Longitude" tab and confirm that your "Time Zone" is set correctly. Check the option for "Automatic".
      4. Go to the "Latitude/Longitude" tab and confirm that DST is set correctly.
      5. Go to the Starry Night Time & Date functions (top-left of application window) and makes sure that DST is set correctly.

On your computer please do the following:

      1. Go to your operating system clock and choose the option to make changes.
      2. Confirm that you are, in fact, correctly set for your time zone.
      3. Confirm the clock time & date are correct.

***If all of the above are true it is not possible for Starry Night to give you an incorrect time.***

So, please spend a few minutes going over all the details above and verify that everything is set up correctly. If Starry Night is not giving you the correct time then something in the list above in not set properly.

Dear Keiron Smith: I am convinced that there is a glitch in Starry Night Pro and Pro Plus that, somehow, changes the time reading incorrectly. Here is what has happened to me: My home location is Myrtle Beach, SC and I've set it as the Home Location and all is well. However, I wanted to see the sky from a different location only 80 miles south in Awendah. I set the proper latitude and longitude, checked the map as you say to do and saved the location with the same -5.0 GMT which is in Myrtle Beach (they're both in the same time zone). Yet, when I go from my home location to this Awendah location by choosing the View Location option, the time changes by several hours. Whatever Starry Night is reading for the base time (it's certainly not what my correct computer clock shows) is obviously wrong or the two locations would have the same time. I did find a workaround for this. I have to set the Awendah Location as my Home Location and then Starry Night reads my clock as the same. However, if I were in a different timezone, this workaround would not work unless I changed my computer clock accordingly for that new timezone. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. If I put in a correct latitude and longitude, why can't Starry Night know what the timezone is automatically and adjust accordingly. Dennis Wolterding, 843-421-1479, dennisjanwolterding@gmail.com

      Hi Dennis,

      Thanks for your feedback.

Did you set the X correctly on the map?
What happens if you set SN7 to use "Automatic" time zone instead of using "Other" offset?

      Thanks!
