Starry Night doesn’t display the correct time when I start up. How do I fix this?

Starry Night reads the time from your computer's Control Panel. Make sure it is set correctly there. On Windows, you can access the clock by clicking the Start button on your desktop and choosing Settings->Control Panel, then double-clicking on “Date/Time” in the list which appears. On the Mac, click on the Apple menu, then select Control Panels->Date & Time. Also, make sure that you are starting Starry Night by running the Starry Night application itself, not a saved Starry Night file.

My computer time is correct, at January 29, 2016. Starry Night is showing the time as 1:19 AM on January 30th. It looks like its reverting to GMT rather than local time.

      Hello Nancy,

I saw on another thread that this issue is now resolved for you! Please do let us know if any future questions arise!

      Best,

      Sophie

I just installed Starry night. The date displayed is tomorrow. The time appears to be GMT. Posting that this was resolved in another thread is not very helpful. What would be helpful is a link to the other thread, or, what the heck, just re-post the solution here.

      Thanks,

      Robert

My time displays correctly when I select on of the predefined locations as my viewing location. When I first installed, I set my viewing location based on a US Zip code. The Sky image appeared to be the local sky while the time displayed did not match. It probably was displaying GMT.

Image and time synchronized with a predefined viewing location.

      Hi Robert,

Starry Night time is based on your computer operating system time. The two must be set correctly, and in sync. An error in either will result in a Starry Night error in calculation. For the moment, let us assume your operating system clock is set correctly. So, lets look at Starry Night.

If you go to File--->Set Home Location--->and then look at the "Map" tab, you will probably see that there is a little red "X" (which represents your location on the global map) somewhere in middle of the Atlantic Ocean or India or somewhere else. The little red "X" needs to be where you are actually located (as a timezone). It doesn't have to be on your exact city, but in the same general vicinity. Once the "X" has been located properly, your Starry Night time should read correctly. Please have a look at this, and let me know whether this resolves the issue for you.

In Starry Night please check the following:

      1. Go to File ---> Set Home Location ---> Choose your city from the "List" tab or by entering your zip code on the "Zip/Postal Code" tab.
      2. Go to the Map tab and make sure the X is position in the general vicinity. So long as the X is positioned just about right, that ok.
      3. Go to the "Latitude/Longitude" tab and confirm that your "Time Zone" is set correctly. Check the option for "Automatic".
      4. Go to the "Latitude/Longitude" tab and confirm that DST is set correctly.
      5. Go to the Starry Night Time & Date functions (top-left of application window) and makes sure that DST is set correctly.

On your computer please do the following:

      1. Go to your operating system clock and choose the option to make changes.
      2. Confirm that you are, in fact, correctly set for your time zone.
      3. Confirm the clock time & date are correct.

***If all of the above are true it is not possible for Starry Night to give you an incorrect time.***

So, please spend a few minutes going over all the details above and verify that everything is set up correctly. If Starry Night is not giving you the correct time then something in the list above in not set properly.

Just downloaded the software, but the time is wrong (though date is correct). My computer time is correct too. Now the correct time is 12:45pm California time, but the Starry Night screen is showing 9:46pm. Please advise what I can do to correct it.

SN7 runs on my MacBook Pro OS 10.15.4
The date and time display in the top of the window is a series of dots with no numbers showing for date or time. How can that be corrected in the display? The values can be changed if I click there and type up or down with the arrow keys. But, it never displays the full date and time.

Sorry but none of the suggestions above give me a correct time setting in Starry Night. When it's 4PM here, SN says its 3PM. Screwed up software for sure...
