Dear Starry Night Customer,
Ater purchasing a downloadable version of Starry Night you receive an email from the Starry Night Store. The email is called "Registration and Download Details." If you cannot find the email please check your spam/junk folders.
Downloading and installing Starry Night - instructions are different for PC and Mac.
Inside the Registration and Download Details email you will find the following:

WINDOWS PC:
1. If given the option choose "Save" and save to your desktop (so you know where the installer will be once the download is complete). The installer looks like this:
2. If you are using Internet Explorer and encounter any difficulty downloading (i.e too slow, stops, incomplete, etc.) try Firefox or Google Chrome instead. This is very important!

3. Once the download is complete double click the starrynight6.exe file to run the installer. If you double click the starrynight6.exe file and it does not run for any reason (or you get any error message, i.e. archive corrupted), then the download did not successfully complete and you must re-download the installer. Note, you can download the installer onto any computer and from any location, and then transport it to your computer of choice by disk or usb stick (if your internet is slow, this may be advisable). If you are having difficulty downloading Starry Night please be sure to cancel any other torrents/ downloads/streaming running in the background. Starry Night can also be shipped to you for an additional $10. To purchase the disk (in addition to your download) submit a ticket to Starry Night Store Order Support.
4. The Prerequisite Wizard will determine whether any supporting software needs first to be installed.
Click NEXT and install all the prerequisite software. Required software has a checkmark. If you receive an error message "After launching all packages some required prerequisites are still missing" or an error message "Set up has detected that you have a more functional product installed. Set up will now terminate" press the < Back button to return to prerequisites panel and uncheck the software in question (usually Adobe reader) and proceed to install Starry Night without trying to install the prerequisite software.
5. After the prerequisite software is installed, click NEXT to continue with the setup. ACCEPT the terms of the License Agreement. Click NEXT to install in the default location. Click INSTALL. Starry Night will be installed in the C:\Program Files folder. A shortcut icon will be created on your desktop. Run the Starry Night program and register when prompted.

7. Set your Home Location using either the city listing tab, longitude & latitude tab, or postal/zipcode tab.
8. If after setting your home location you receive the following "Starry Night...needs to close" error message please see this graphics card KB article here:

Note: the error message seen above can also be displayed when Starry Night is Initialing OpenGL during start up. See the linked KB article above.
MAC:
1. The Mac installer can probably be found in your Downloads folder. The installer looks like this:

3. A window will open with the Starry Night program on the left side, the Mac Applications folder on the right side, and a triangle between the two. To install, you simply drag the Starry Night program over the triangle and onto the Applications folder.
4. Starry Night will be installed in the Applications folder. Run the Starry Night program and register when prompted.

Inside the Registration and Download Details email you will find the following:

If you enter the correct registration information in the registration window a green checkmark and the "OK" button will become visible. If you do not enter the correct Name and Registration Number in the registration window then you will only see the option to "Quit" (and "later" if installing from a disk). Please ensure that you enter both the name and number exactly as you see them in this email. Be aware that sometimes the registration panel opens up with the Name field already auto-filled. Often this auto-filled name is not correct. You must enter the Name from your registration information (shown above in this message). The registration is cAsE sensitive. Cut and paste, both your user name and registration number for best results.
Do you see the green checkmark? If you don't see the green checkmark please re-read the paragraph above.
Only If you are installing Starry Night from a disk will the option to "Get Registration Number..." be available. This takes you to a webpage to sign-up. Registration information will then be emailed to you. This option is not available if installing from a download. If you are installing from a download then your registration was emailed to you.
