Should Telescope Control Buttons Appear When SkySafari 7 Is Connected Argo Navis + ServoCat Gen 3? (User Needs Community Help)

Hello! I just hooked up a SkyFi to my scope for the first time, which has Argo Navis, and Servocat Gen 3. But I don’t see any telescope control buttons appear on SkySafari after it connects.

I first setup the scope like normal, turning on only the Servocat and Argo Navis, and aligning as usual with Argo Navis. After successful alignment, I power up the SkyFi and hook it up directly to the Servocat using the USB-A port on the SkyFi and the USB-B port (the PC port) on the Servocat. I then connect my phone to the SkyFi wifi network in my wifi settings, then open SkySafari and open the telescope control icon and tap “Connect”. Connection is successful!

I can move the sky map around in sky safari, select a new object and hit “go-to”, and the scope will move to that new object. I can also move to a different area of the sky on the map, and then tap “Lock”, and the map returns to the position of sky where the scope is currently pointing.

But there are no arrow buttons or slew rate options anywhere on the SkySafari screen. I can go-to seemingly any object no problem. Works every time. But no button controls to move up down, left right.

Would love to know if there’s a way to get those to appear! I’m hoping to be able to use this as a remote. Many thanks for any help!

    Eric,

Please make a screen recording that shows your telescope settings/preset and scope connection/control and GoTo.

Share the screen recording using a link from DropBox, Google Drive, WeTransfer or any other similar service.

Once we have a clear understanding of what is happening we can better provide a solution.

Please also provide the following info:

    1. App and version.  See Help > scroll to the bottom.
    2. OS version.
    3. Device make and model.

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,

Here's a link to a series of screenshots:

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WNNsSc11J4dZOaq8nRV_XPQ2E5-OB4uy?usp=sharing

My SkySafari version is SS7 Pro, 7.1.3 (1060)

My iPhone is iPhone 11, software version 15.5.

I've also tried repeating the process in SS6 Pro, Version 6.8.5.2 and had the exact same result.  The go-to works on any object without a problem, but no directional buttons appear on SkySafari.

Many thanks for looking into this! Hoping that it's just some setting I've got wrong somewhere.  Many thanks!

    Eric,

    Please review this document:

    https://skysafariastronomy.com/products/skyfi/files/SkyFi-ServoCAT-ArgoNavis.pdf

Note, in reading the instructions above the expected behavior is as you are experiencing, you can choose objects and GoTo.  There is no mention of scope control buttons.

I think we will need other Argo Navis + Servocat Gen 3 community users to join our conversation to help you further.

    Thanks for the screenshots!

I will also note that if you experiencing the same result with SS6 then this is more than likely the expected behavior, as SS6 is well-polished, and this issue would have been reported and addressed in the years gone by.
