SkyFi connection with Celestron ne CGX mount

Just upgraded mounts from my trusty CG5 GT to the new CGX and cannot get a definite answer to can I conext my SkyFI 2 USB to the CGX hand controls USB mini? The CGX has only 2 serial ports on the mount and they cannot be used. The manual says to connect ASCOM to the USB mini on the hand control. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Dave R.

If I understand you, you have the new Celestron HC that has only a USB connection on the bottom, right?  Unfortunately, the SkyFi USB cannot control this.  When Celestron designed the new HC, they used a USB chipset that SkyFi USB does not support.

The new SkyFi 3 does support the USB HC, but of course that would be another purchase.

    Hi SC.....

I too have upgraded from CG-5 mounts to the new CGX mount.

I understand that the older SkyFi/StarSeek modules would not work with the CGX and the upgrade to the SkyFi 3 is the solution to operating the mount remotely.    I have loaded SkySafari 5 Pro on both Android and iPad mini, using them in the past successfully.

My activities are mostly in the field for the Chicago Astronomer public observation sessions with no available wifi.  Will I be able to continue using both tablets (android/apple) with the Skyfi 3/CGX combo for remote control of the mount?

And.....I am assuming that the hard connection between the SkyFi 3 and the CGX mount is through the Handset's Mini USB port?  Celestron doesn't like the AUX ports used for this.

    Finally...

Sky Safari 5 doesn't have the option for the CGX mount for set-up.   Will this be a problem?

    Thank you.

    Joe,

I don't recall any problems with the older SkyFi 2 and the CGX mount.  Where did you hear it wouldn't work?

You don't ned to have Wi-Fi available to use SkyFi.  It sets up its own hotspot which you join.

Yes, you will need to to run a USB cable between SkyFi and the USB port on the bottom of the hand controller.

SS5 does have a setting for the CGX.  It is called "Celestron AVX/CE/CGEM/CGX"
