SkySafari 5 Plus Fails To Connect To iOptron SmartStar Cube Pro (Solution: Set Time & Location = OFF)

I have a iOptron SmartStar Cube Pro with a 8401 HC.
I have your SCC SkyFi 3 and SkySafari 5 Plus Ver 5.1.4 app.
I have tried for 2 days and many emails to iOptron's tech support to get help so it would work. They told me the setup I was using should work. Then they said they have the same mount and hand controller their version of SkySafari is 5.1.4 on a first generation SkyFi from Southern Stars My Ver. is 5.1.4. on a SCC SkyFi 3 ,very very frustrating.
I set the scope type in the app to iOptron SmartStar & 8401/2 and it will not connect. If I use a different scope, like the LX 200-GPS in the app,it connects.

HELP!

What am I doing wrong?

    Norm,

Please check the firmware version in the SkyFi 3.  iOptron 8401 support requires firmware version 1.2.1 or higher.  The first batch of SkyFi 3's we distributed had older firmware.   You can download the latest firmware (1.3.2) from this page.

    Bill,

I updated to Version 1.3.2,that was  4 days ago.

I still wonder why the 1st generation SkyFi works  just fine with the iOptron mount.

The original SkyFi had totally different firmware.  Is it working with SkyFi 3 with the latest firmware.

No Bill, it still will not connect with the iOptron SmartStar & 8401/2 setting . The same setting that the Tech at iOptron used with his 1st generation  SkyFi.

What firmware version do you have?  The latest has been tested with the 8401 HC and it does work.

Sorry, missed that.  I'm dealing with a number of customers and it is somewhat hard to keep straight who has done what.

Have you checked to see if the firmware in the HC is the same as what the iOptron tech was successful with?

I will contact the firmware engineer and have him retest and as what firmware he was using in the HC.

I was just looking over your initial posting and I see you say: "If I use a different scope, like the LX 200-GPS in the app,it connects.".  So that implies it is not a firmware issue.   When it connected did it correctly show the scopes position in the sky?  Could you do a Go To or slew the scope with the on-scren buttons?  I'm just trying to verify that they are really connecting.

Could you send me a scope log file taken while the software fails to connect?

    ============================================

Save Log File - If turned on, SkySafari saves a log of its communication with the telescope on your mobile device. SkySafari creates a new log file every time you connect to the telescope. The log file records every command that SkySafari sends to the telescope, and every response from the telescope. The log file name contains the date and time you began the telescope session, for example:

    2014-01-31-12-34-56.txt

This log file can be emailed to Simulation Curriculum for troubleshooting telescope communication problems. You can transfer the telescope communication log from your iOS or Android device using iTunes file sharing (iOS) or SD file card transfer (Android).

    • iOS users - transfer the scope communication log to your computer with iTunes file sharing. Connect your iPhone or iPad to a computer running iTunes with a USB cable. Select your iOS device when it appears in iTunes, then find the "Apps" section. Choose SkySafari Plus or Pro from the list of apps. iTunes will then display the SkySafari Documents that can be shared with iTunes.

    • Android users - the scope communication log is written to a folder named "SkySafari Plus" or "SkySafari Pro" at the top level of your SD card. Copy this file to your computer with a USB cable, or simply email it to yourself.

Please use the support ticket you've opened. You can attach files to a ticket response.  It is Ticket #32250.

The Problem: SkySafari fails to connect to iOptron SmartStar Cube Pro when ScopeType is set to "iOptron SmartStar & 8401/2"

The Solution:  In Scope Setup >>> Common Settings >>> make "Set Time & Location" = OFF

    SkyFi 3 w/ firmware 1.3.2

    HC firmware Version V090701W (latest)
