I think augmented reality would be a great feature to add to SkySafari. Being able to see through the camera would be incredible useful for astrophotographers.

Any news on this? Would really love to see this in SkySafari 6
We are slowly making progress in that direction.
Good to hear.
A really well done AR mode can be found in the app Sky Guide AR (https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/sky-guide-ar/id576588894?mt=8)
It permits compass calibration and you can even change how visible the overlay should be.
Thanks for your work :)
Could somebody explain what augmented reality can offer in an app like SkySafari? At night, if the camera can see the stars at all, they'll just be points, just like the stars in SF6. Is there any advantage in having the points drawn by the camera?
Or is AR mainly to be used in daylight?
The exposure time in AR would be waaay higher than normally, so you are able to actually see the stars.
AR has potential benefits in identifying stars or constellations.
It acts as an overlay and makes it easy to find whatever you are looking for in the night sky.
Which in turn could also help with polar alignment or aligning your telescope to objects without a goto.
But I am already using SF to identify stars and constellations!
Sure, probably by star hopping.
AR is easier and more accessible for most people, though.
It's also probably the feature most people who are not that deep into astronomy like to use the most.
I know that's true for my friends/acquaintances at least.
Thank you guys for implementing this btw :) Great feature!
