Hi all
When using Sky Safari in cold weather we must use gloves.
Gloves (even if they are "touch screen certified" are not very accurate to press the buttons to control the telescope mount. So in order to be able to move the telescope precisely I must take down the gloves. I tried to keep one hand with the glove and hold the tablet, and only the other hand with no glove to press the buttons, but since the buttons are placed on the left and right side of the screen, is somehow awkward to move around with one hand in the dark (one may touch other areas of the screen by mistake).
I propose to have the options:
- 2 hand operation ... like it is now, 2 buttons on one side of the screen, 2 on the other side. This to be the "summer mode" , when no gloves required :-)
- 1 hand operation .... where 4 buttons are clustered on one side of the screen (left handed operation or right handed operation). Imagine the 4 movement buttons in a gamepad or similar "design" . So that you can keep only one thumb out of the glove and maneuvre the telescope from the SkySafary interface.
Another way is to use the "swype" style of control. Define a circular area, where you can place your thumb, and if you slowly swype your thumb to the right the scope is moving moving rightward, if you slowly swype up, the scope moves upward, and so on.
In this way you don't need to raise your finger from the touch screen and move it to another area (not very large area). This can be usefull when you have your eye at the eyepiece and and in the same time you need to slowly/precisely move the telescope. I think this operation style is very similar to what you do when you use the trackpoint from the laptop.
If it matters, I use SkySafari5Plus on Samsung Galaxy Tab3 8" (Android 4.xxx) with a BT adapter to SkyWatcher AZ EQ5 mount. It works like a charm :-))
Thanks, and keep up the great job you are doing!
Liviu
