Purchased skywire a few years back and recently upgraded to Sky Safari Plus. My Meade will not connect to my ipad. I get a message that says it cannot find a wifi network. But I am tethered with skywire.
It worked well with in the past. Any suggestions? I have cleaned the connections but still cannot get the scope to recognize skywire when I attempt to connect. Thank you.
Is the SkyWire a SkySafari branded one, or is it the Orion version (for the StarSeek app). The Orion one will not work with SkySafari (Apple's limitation, not ours).
When you have SkySafari running and plug SkyWire into the iPad, do you get a message saying the SkyWire has been detected? If not then it is not getting recognized for some reason (possibly because it it the Orion version).
If this the Lightning version or the 30-pin version? If the latter and you are using it with an adapter, that could also be a problem.
I downloaded your version from the Apple Store, so yes it is Sky Safari branded.
The message after pressing Connect is "Connection Failure. Skysafari Plus can make a wireless connection to the scope, but the scope is not responding. Make sure it is connected and powered on. Also check that your scope is correct.”
I have the 30 pin version with your serial connector purchased together from you or your previous owner a few year back. I am using the Apple converter of 30 pin to lighting. I checked the connector with other device connection and it works fine.
The SkyWire worked fine with the older version of Safari+ when I last used it last. So, the only thing that has changed is my new Ipad and the lighting adaptor.
I believe I have worked through the solutions. If you have no other ideas, is there an upgrade available to the lighting version?
Thanks for your help. I became motivated to pull my scope out after I upgraded recently to Sky Safari Plus, purchased the connector adaptor and expected it to work as it did. But, alas…

When I asked if it was the SkySafari-branded one, I meant the SkyWire. We made one for Orion StarSeek but it only works with the StarSeek app. However, if you are sure this used to work with SkySafari+ then it must be a SkySafari SkyWire.
Sounds like the 30-pin to lightning adapter may be causing the problem. I'm pretty sure this is known to work with the official Apple adapter, but some 3rd party adaptors do not implement all the pins correctly.
If you still have access to a 30-pin iPad (or iPhone) with SkySafari, it would be instructive to know if it works there.

I did purchase my Skywire from you guys. In answer to your question, there is no recognition of Skywire when I plug it in while running SkySafari.
Unfortunately, I no longer have my old ipad. I do have an old ipod running ios 4.2, but SkySafari is on my ipad.
Looks like my options are to purchase the Apple converter or a new Skywire with the lightning connection.
