Please release a linux version of Starry Night!
Hi jamie,
The demand for Starry Night on Linux is not there. One or two Linux users like yourself come in every year asking for this. But, not enough to justify the cost of development and maintenance.
Thanks, still, for showing your interest.
Do you mean a Linux version of SkySafari? Sorry, but that is very unlikely to happen. You could see if there is a Android emulator for Linux. Then you could run the Android version there.
I was actually thinking about Starry Night software. It's come for free along with a Celestron telescope, but I haven't used it since I'm only using linux on my PC's. I imagine that it may run under wine, but native is always nicer.
Thanks, that's what I figured. Thought I'd ask anyway.
Jamie
Please add 1 to users that come every year asking for a Linux version of Starry Night....
The OS X version may be easy to port to Linux (may be)... or consider at least support the windows version of Starry Night for wine (the windows emulator for Linux). There are a lot of windows software that can run under wine... but seems that SN is not one of them..
Best regards.
I'm a Linux only user too. If the development cost is too high, can you consider a community base development effort?
Santiago
Hi Santiago,
Thanks for your feedback. But, honestly, it's really not likely to happen.
Hello, you can add another sad linux user...
Astronomy, the supposedly open-minded hobby, is first, a (fcking) expensive one but ok, building lens and mirrors has a real heavy cost,..
But then, you find narrow minded companies existing and making money for decades who say they can't support the cost of developping a linux version of their software... let me laugh !
for linux users: Stellarium
I am also a Linux user and would love a Linux version of Starry Night. Just adding my vote here. Thanks!
