SkyWire Cable Connection Issue

When plugging in a (new) SkyWire cable, I do not get a successful cable connection notification (just blank).

Configuration:

- iPhone 5s

- iOS 11.0.3

- Skysafari 5 plus version 5.4.1.0

 

The first time I got something like "... app not installed to make this serial cable operate" and referenced (2) unrelated apps:

1) Iridium Edge Demo

2) MSCADAview

Please advise, this is  brand new cable, I'm disappointed with the results.

 

PS ... when trying to connect to a Sky Commander, the connection fails because it is looking for a wireless (not seeing the serial cable)

    Not sure what the problem is.  Some questions:

    1. When you say " I do not get a successful cable connection notification (just blank)", are you saying there is a blanks window that pops up, or are you just not seeing any notification window at all?

    2. This is a Simulation Curriculum SkyWire, not the Orion branded version, right?  The Orion cable will not work with SkySafari, only with the Orion branded version of SkySafari (called StarSeek).

    3. You have the lightning version of SkyWire, right?  Or are you using some adapter to go from an older 30-pin SkiWire to the Lightning connector on the 5s.

    Bill,

    1. The very first connection detected the cable but said I needed the (2) unrelated apps to function. After subsequent connections, I didn't see a notification window at all.  The same behavior happened on another iPhone as a test.

    2. This is a new SC SkyWire cable.

    3. This is the lighting version.

    4. I've pulled the iPhone cover off and cleaned the port, no help.

    OK, it sounds like you may have a defective SkyWire.  This is really rare but I can't think of what else the problem could be.  I will have Keiron contact you about a replacement.  Sorry about that.
