17 Crateris mislabeled

N Hydrae SAO 179967 and SAO 179968 are both mislabeled as 17 Crateris.  This is true in SkySafari 5 Pro both OS X and iOS versions.

Outstanding ap.  Looking forward to the next version.

    Joe,

According to the SIMBAD database, 17 Crateris A is indeed SAO 179968

Why do you feel this is an error?

My post title is incorrect.  It should read N Hydrae is mislabeled as 17 Crateris.  If you look at the map, 17 Crateris is located smack in the middle of Hydra.

I believe the designation is correct.  Please Google for N Hydrae and also read our description.  I agree this looks like a catalog error (and in a sense it is) but 17 Crt is the star commonly called N Hydrae.

OK.  My confusion came about in searching for the double star N Hydrae in the Astronomical League double star observing program.  SkySafari shows this star as 17 Crateris.  Perhaps the AL program should list 17 Crateris as the target.

But they are the same star.  N Hydrae is the same double star as 17 Crateris.  Celestial objects have many aliases.  You will never get people to agree on which designation to use.
