Sometimes this happens within a minute and sometimes it takes a few minutes. I'm running the latest versions of iOS and SkySafari.

Bill Tschumy All I can think of is that the compass is coming on automatically when the device is held up to the sky. This automatically reset time to "now" so it can match what you see in the sky. If you don't want the compass automatically coming on, you can disable the "Tilt to Use Compass" setting in the Appearance & Behavior settings.

Richard Sutor Bill, that seems to work. However, if I disable "Tilt to Use Compass" and then "freeze" and "unfreeze" the compass it still happens.
Thanks,

Bill Tschumy That is by design. Every time you turn on the compass the time is reset to "Now". It has worked that way for 8 years.
